Issue numero dos has our protagonist, Eric Westfall, meeting up with the rogue agent and ex-lover Emma and escaping from his death.

After reading Left On Mission #2, one of the things I noticed was how there was an improvement from the first issue story-telling-wise. Mosher’s getting more comfortable in the role of comic book writer and the story is definitely benefitting. Art-wise, well, Francavilla can do no wrong and he does a damn good job with the art. Also, the best part of this issue was easily Westfall getting his ass kicked in the rave. Hillarious stuff. Wonder why no one has thought of that before…. (more…)

Darwyn Cooke has always been a fantastic artist but with “Almost Blue”, he shows off his great writing skills. With The Spirit #6, Cooke introduces August “Almost” Blue, a momma’s boy with great musical talent but a monkey on his back the size of King Kong. Blue goes on a little adventure where he becomes the songwriter for his girlfriend’s punk band, finds a mysterious meteor that dropped a blue liquid drug, faced off against a controlling con man, and ends up dead.

In the age when “Ghost Rider” can pass for a legitimate action movie, good action/adventure movies are few and far in between. I believe the Pirates series is one of those rarities. Now I know a lot of complaint went into the second installment of the Pirates series, and most of it justified in my eyes, but I will offer a disclaimer right now, that i very much enjoyed Dead Man’s Chest. So there.

Right from the beginning we are shown the vast effects of the “war against pirates” as hundreds of folks are being led to execution, and i wont spoil anything, but this movie pulls no punches, as it shocks by breaking a Hollywood “rule”.

Press release:

Virgin Comics and Studio 18 announced today that they are forming a new production relationship to create a slate of teen horror properties for films, television, games and publishing.

Horror has increasingly become one of the most profitable genres in film worldwide, driven largely by the youth. The new stories, will be co-created and co-owned by Virgin and Studio 18 and initially be released as graphic novels to be published worldwide by Virgin. The partnership anticipates an ongoing slate of teen horror properties to be created each year with the first comic book expected to release end of 2007.
