Fantastic Four #609 (The God Ship Galactus Spoilers)

Postby Punchy » Sat Aug 11, 2012 1:40 pm

I must admit that the whole ‘Nu-Earth’, Future Defenders story is my least favourite of Hickman’s various subplots, so the prospect of their return in this issue didn’t fill me with excitement. But it wasn’t all bad, this issue marked the end of the plot, so we’ll hopefully not see this lot again, and plus, we got the awesome image of Galactus as a space-ship, which was just really cool. Other plus-points were the 2nd Hulk/Thing fight in a week, Spider-Man showing up again, and getting to see Johnny Storm almost use the Cosmic Control Rod and be a bit more mature. Ryan Stegman’s art was OK, his style is a bit more cartoonish than this book has been in a while, but I was getting into it by the end. I have to say though, I’m basically ready for Hickman’s run to end and for Fraction to take over, and bring some Allred-shaped fun to these books. These last few issues are a waiting game for me, let’s just hope Hickman can keep things interesting.

I wish I read your review before I looked at this book. Had I known it was another 'Nu-Earth' that nobody but Hickman ever asks for , I never would have opened it.

In my new rating system I give this issue :smt015 :smt015 :smt015 :smt015 :smt015 out of 5.

Yeah, while I liked the art all the Nu Earth stories have been very sub-par. Is it a plot from Millar's run?

It started there, but Hickman changed it a lot from what Millar had set up..

I thought it might be so unenjoyable because I hadn't read the original story, but if it's still bad to people that have then it shows that it just plain sucks

Say what you want about Nu-Earth (it totally sucked), the Galactus Ship was the shit. And hey, no more Nu-Earth, so that's a victory in and of itself.

Not the way I see it.

"Oh No! The Great Devourer of Worlds is in the sky! We're doomed. Our only chance is to throw all our nukes at him!"

squack - "Hello, please don't fire on us, we are not a danger to you. We're people just like you who have chosen a ship shaped like the endless horrific nightmares of a billion worlds because it looks 'kewl'. Repeat, we're nice guys. Really."

"Fire all nukes!"

Boom!

squack - "Oh well, that's another world that's destroyed itself because they can't handle the awesome look of our ship. Let's go find another place that we might be able to call Nu-Knew-New-Gnu Earth. Battlestar Galactus... Away!"
