This is what I hate about a more "alien" Supes. He seems far too removed from mankind, even when he's surrounded by people.

That's why MOS worked. Clark was more comfortable around people. His Kryptonian heritage was secondary to his friends and family, country, etc. Especially the last page in MOS#6. He showed that there was more to humanity than just biology. It's about, being compassionate, loving, and noble. Universal concepts, perhaps. But they were things that were apparently missing or were de-emphaised on Krypton.

It may be you and I that agree on this point, but Man of Steel really defined a vision of Superman that made a whole lot of sense to me. This coming from a guy who made the letter's page complaining a couple years later about the Phantom Zone executions. I'm not loving this revision. Not hating it either, but I'm sort of ambivalent about it...I got bored with the Superman title and dropped it about three months ago. Superboy dropped when I realized it was going to tie into what looked like a horrible crossover with Teen Titans. Supergirl gets the drop this month. I'll keep Action on the list, but only for Morrison's off the wall issues. Outside of Justice League, this may be the most disappointing character relaunch/reboot.

Wow, this but all confirms that it's either Cassandra Cain or Stephanie Brown!

And on a more serious note - why does it have to be anyone from the old universe? I for one want to see original characters and old things go in different directions.

When the Legion was originally rebooted (the Archie years) it was a different team but they were still mostly the same with only a few tweaks to make them 'different' from what came before. The Legion 3boot had a chance to be unique, but apart from the youth rebellion plot and silly reimaging of powers (instead of growing, Gim became a giant who shrank  ) it was just rehasing.

The current Flash is doing this exact same thing. It's Flash so there has to be Captain Cold, Heatwave, Weather Master and the rest... and now we have Gorilla Grodd(?) While I love Grodd, why does he have to fight Flash? Is it because they always did before? If so, that was the old universe's way - this is a new universe. Let him take on Batwing (they share the same geography) or Supes or anyone but Flash. It's predictable, boring and leads to rehashing of characters and plots.

When Parasite eventually shows up, he doesn't HAVE to be a Superman rogue just because he was before.
When Green Arrow and Black Canary eventually meet, they don't have to run off to bed together.
J'Onn J'Onzz doesn't have to capable of being defeated by a Bic lighter.
etc

There's nothing wrong with having things look familiar, I just hope they don't make it so identical.

So, whomever this new baddie is - I hope I've never heard of them before.

What issue and what was the complaint? I've always complained about it too - not that Superman willingly killed anyone, but that he only thought he did. Once exposed to gold kryptonite, green kryptonite did squat; so Superman couldn't have executed them in that way.

That they eventually would have starved to death on the barren Earth they created is a different matter. :-D

Don't confuse Amoebas with the facts, Scott.
