Have you ever beat someone up?

Postby Keb » Mon Aug 20, 2012 10:22 pm

Yes? No? If so, what were the circumstances. Doesn't matter if you were a kid or an adult.

This is pure honesty: I am a pacifist, but...

One time in third grade I threw this kid down the hill we used to use for tobogganing during school and then slid down the hill and jumped on him, threw my knee into his ribs a few time and shoved his face in the snow. Didn't fuck him up or anything but he was pretty upset and he told his mom, who came to school and told me off. The weirdest thing was that his brother and my brother were friends and his brother used to come over to my house every day.

That's the only recollection of violence I have.

Once in Junior High, there was this kid that bugged me a lot. He always had some smart shit to say and always found some way to annoy me. Overall, though, I never really let him bug me too much, I would find ways to get him back, but I think over time his constant annoying started to get to me little by little. One day he passed by me while I was working and he dropped my pencil. I told him to pick up my pencil and he started acting all hard again, "Oh, what you gonna do? Huh? Yeah, I dropped your pencil, what you gonna do? I ain't picking that shit up." I got up slowly and got to his face and said, "Pick up the pencil." He didn't, kept talking, and I grabbed him by the throat, lifted him up and slammed him down onto the table but didn't let go of his neck. I kept choking him down while yelling to him, "Yeah, say shit now, you wanna keep fucking with me?" Other students rushed to separate us but they couldn't get me off him until a teacher from the next room ran in and pulled me off of him. I still remember our Spanish professor yelling, "Help, help! He's going to kill him!"

The kid never fucked with me again.

I've once knocked someone's tooth out, also in Junior High.

I've slammed people against the wall and threatened to knock them out. Chased someone down the hall way and jumped over a bar to slam them down against the floor in high school.

Coulda been more.

Once, in high school. This kid was picking on me in PE class, over and over. I just told him we'd settle it after class. When we met, he was posturing saying shit like "his fist were registered lethal weapons" and other crap. I punched him once in the gut. He fell down, unable to breathe so I waited. Once he got up he started crying and ran away. Was the lamest thing I had ever been in.

Yes, several times, several different people and mostly as a kid in middle school and high school.

The funniest, if you consider it funny, was back in '80 at the Eaton Center. At that time it was a bit of a rage for kids to pick pocket. For me, I was trained by cousins that were good at it. So I spotted this kid sizing me up. He was sloppy given that I had spotted him, but he still tried. I got his wallet and he got nothing. Seems he was not pleased as half an hour or something like that, he found me elsewhere in the mall, took me outside and tried to beat me up for it. I left him bleeding, crying and tossed his wallet into the garbage can in front of him.

Okay, one that is sort of funny is a guy I used to beat up all the time in air cadets (Americans... think ROTC). He was a sergeant and well, we did not like each other. Long story short, despite being warned by friends, all the NCOs he still had to start shit up (in Kebese). I finished it each and every time with a single shot. He had both a glass jaw and glass stomach. Now the funny part is I used to hide his "corpse" so the officer wouldn't see him and have a freak. I stuffed him in janitor's closets, lockers, change rooms... under the permanent benches in the change rooms with the lights out... in the last john in the far corner deep in the change room with the lights out... it was not a big secret that if he disappeared... I got blamed. This went on long enough for others to beat him up and let me take the blame for it. Did find out some better lockers though, that first few, he kept falling out of... had to slam them several times to get them to stay shut. Stupid Montreal jackass took forever to learn to stop messing with me.

There were others, but they were pretty serious shit and I don't like dwelling on them. They're nothing to be proud of. Despite the justness of them.

I try not to let my rage get the best of me. The one time that I couldn't was back when I was in high school. Some kid had stolen my text books and when I found out I grabbed him by the back of his neck. He told me if I let him go he would return my books to me. I let him go and he turned around and punched me in the face and tried to run away. I ran after him and knocked him to the ground and got on top of him and I just went nuts punching him. All I could see is red. This all happened in the middle of class too. The teacher had to pull me off of him. Later when we were sent to the office to be suspended he was crying and told me he was going to kill me. That's really the only big incident that happened. Getting in fights with my brother doesn't count does it?

A couple of times, sure. Usually drunken or drug-fueled brawls with no rhyme or reason.

When I was a kid, I tried to rip this other kid's tongue out. He said something disparaging about my father, and I was dead set on taking his tongue out of his mouth. He started hitting me, but I had him on the ground, and like I said, I wasn't going anywhere without the dude's tongue.

Some other kids pulled us apart and reminded us we were supposed to be friends. I sorta realized that pulling someone's tongue out was...not rational.

He and I had another fight a few weeks later and we destroyed this staircase in this other kid's basement. We stopped when we realized how funny it sounded with the other kid screaming at us to stop. We literally started laughing and pretty much became best friends from that moment on.

In high school, I tried to kill this kid for spraying me with a water gun on pretty much the worst day he could have chosen to randomly be a dick. I pretty much lost complete control of myself. it was literally as if I was a passenger in my body, watching someone else do the driving. I chased him down and caught up with him at the stairwell down the hall. He was like, a black belt in TKD or whatever, but none of that really mattered. because the next thing I know, I've got him up against the wall, with my hand around his throat. He starts...I dunno...kinda struggling, like he's just starting to realize he can't breathe and that there's nothing he's doing which is making me let go.

I regained control when I happened to see this one girl staring at me. Had a crush on her, and she'd taken a liking to me too. Well, up until then. There was this look of fear or something on her face, and that's the moment I got control of what I was doing. Let that kid go.

One time, after taking a fuck-ton of karate in college, I decided to take a quarter off so I could join this sparring class with the other sensei who taught my style. I'd learned T'ai Chi from him several years earlier and he was cool and whatever. I didn't really know anybody in the class, but there was this one dude who claimed to be from Angola, where they still fought duels or some silly shit. This guy was always needling me, trying to push me. But I was past the point in my life where I snapped and fucked people up.I was a goddamn serene mother fucker now.

One day, we got paired up to spar. He's this tall, lanky dude with reach over me for weeks. And he starts in on me. Well, so much for serenity.

I recalled him saying to someone else that he had bad knees that would flare up at times. I remember filing that shit away. Well, we start out match. And at first, I'm not gonna do it. But he's got these long legs like a stork, and his stance is so goddamned gangly. And Sensei ain't looking.

So, I lift my knee all the way up to my chest, like I'm gonna kick him in the face or some shit. He guards high, and I drop my foot down on his knee. Like this downward angle. it kicks his leg out wide and opens his stance up too far. He buckles. The match is over. I held back on that kick. I mean, I had control, you know? Just enough to hurt him. To drop him. But not to cripple him. But that was pretty much it for his day in class.

He never talks shit to me again. He never runs his goddamn mouth about duels or gets in my face to test me ever again.

I go back to serene.

I've never fought to simply beat someone up.

When I was twelve a kid took a swing at me and I fought back a little too keenly. He ended up going backward down a flight of stairs and was on crutches for a year or so afterward. I learned to control my temper after that.

I got pushed around a lot as a kid and a teen. One time in gym as a freshman, a senior started pushing me around in the locker room as his buds laughed. I side kicked his knee and elbowed his stomach. They threatened to beat me up after school. I said "Yeah, that's a good story to get out. The faggot freshman fought you back and hurt you in gym so you need 5 people to get him after school." Surprisingly, they left me alone after that.

When I was 20 I dated a guy who was about 6'4". I got out of work early and went to the bar I knew he'd be at to surprise him. He didn't like being surprised, I found out. They was angry, ended up throwing me a few feet into a brick wall. I was on the ground when he came in close to grab my shirt and I punched him square in the nose and broke it. By that time, the bouncers were there and kicked him out. One of the them got the first aid kit and cleaned up the back of my head where it hit the bricks. The bastard ripped the rear wiper off my car.
However, Liefeld is an enigma wrapped in a pouch-filled, muscular, footless conundrum.

Yes. Plenty of times. Won a bunch and lost a few.

When I first moved to Detroit in '84 I had to deal with what you would call a classic bully.

I had finally had it with him after about 3 months and had to repeatedly batter him in the head one day after school with my clarinet case.
