DC Shocker: Andy Diggle, Tony Daniel New Action Comics Team

The new creative team begins in March.

Source: Newsarama

Andy Diggle and Tony Daniel will be taking over Action Comics as of issue #18. While actual news about the series is scant, Newsarama did reveal a new costume for the Man of Steel, featuring Superman in a dark grey outfit.  The first issue of their run will begin in March 2013.

Diggle and Daniel will be replacing Grant Morrison and a bevy of artists, who relaunched the series to middling reviews last year.  Action Comics seems to have found its legs as of late, with both #0 and #13 receiving positive reviews.  However, there's been no word on whether Diggle will be continuing Morrison's social justice themes or trippy storylines.

WTF is this rank?

I like Andy Diggle's writing and Tony Daniel's art. So long as it's not Tony Daniel writing it.

I thought it hasn't been confirmed yet that this is his new outfit as that is promo art, but unless it's an alternate Superman, odds are it probably is.

Haven't read #13 yet but #0 was gawdawful. The Review Group gave it a 3.8 out of 10.

If that's 'finding it's legs', then Morrison can't leave the book soon enough.

It wasn't that bad. It just seemed like fluff, though. Really, Morrison spent so much time building the back-story when this title rebooted that there wasn't a whole lot left to touch upon for the #0 issue.

Actually - it was worse :-D

As far as Diggle goes - I loved Losers and Rann/Thanagar War so I'm hopeful for his Action.

Tony Daniel however - on art? okay. Just keep him away from the writing.

Judging from the art and the last page of Superman #0, I would assume this is the costume Supes will be wearing when he travels back in time to before Krypton exploded.

Diggle wrote Adam Strange, not Rann/Thanagar War, which was Dave Gibbons.

I'm interested to see this, I used to love Diggle, but his Daredevil stuff was disappointing. I did like his most recent Marvel thing (Six Guns), so we'll see.

I...don't know. I've always liked Tony Daniel's art, and really, Andy Diggle has done quite a few things I've liked, but for some reason, I'm not as excited about this as I'd like.

I won't even lie: I haven't read any of the Superman titles since the reboot. I just haven't liked the direction or creative teams that have been on the books, so I've just not read any.

Diggle/Daniel...maybe I'll give it a shot. I really would like to read some good Superman stuff, but I have to admit, I was not ready to hear about Lois Lane being back in the mix for Supes' love life.

For all the heat longtime readers get for wanting the status quo, that's one relationship that I don't ever have to see again. Ever.

Ack - I knew that!

(in my defense - both were excellent)
