Every Time I Read Something That Mentions Avengers Arena... I feel like ripping the writer’s head off. And the book hasn’t even fucking started yet.

I shouldn’t WANT to ‘pound’ the writer. I should be wanting to congratulate them for good stories that don’t rely on the fucking tired concept of killing a character to generate drama.

Thank God there’s a Young Avengers book to balance out Arena’s sure-to-be bullshit

I was thinking for a minute[I do that occasionally], and I just realized that of the original class of Avengers Academy, the only ones in this deathtrap Avengers Arena are the non-white ones — the Japanese girl, the African American boy[who got his skin stripped off but he is/was black], and the Hispanic boy. I mean, Juston and X-23 are both white, but they were added in to AA later and appeared in other shit previously.

…..Now I’m NOT saying Hopeless is trying to get rid of the nonwhite characters, or that he’s racist, but uh THIS IS AWKWARD OK.

This book, this Avengers Arena book, nothing good can come of it. It doesn’t matter how well written it is. We know characters are going to do die.

So the best solution I think is for people to not talk about it. Don’t buy it, don’t download it, don’t even illegally download it, don’t even post panels to rage against it. Don’t give it any press whatsoever.

Just don’t do anything. Don’t give it the time of day. Sometimes the only way to be heard is to be silent.

Oh no, how dare people judge a book based on the way the people who (presumably) want them to buy it have been marketing it!

Fucking seriously? If Marvel wants me to buy a book, they can try selling it to me in a way that implies they don’t think I get my kicks watching kids off each other. Until they do, fuck ‘em — it’s not my job to make excuses for their rotten marketing.

I don’t mean to pass judgement, but a few thoughts:

God he reads like he’s got no idea how to be interviewed and is still trying to play coy with revealing details
““Kill or be killed” is pretty much the perfect allegory for high school.” No, Mr. Hopeless, no it is not. I loathe it and it STILL ISN’T.
“Arcade is done being a joke. He chose these kids for a reason but it isn’t one he’s going to be explaining. Let’s just say he has some experience putting together an entertaining death match.” You interview like Bendis writes dialogue, none of these sentences fully connect to the next.
