Dan Jurgens Talks Plans For

Plans are to bring Firestorm back to the fun character he once was

Source: CBR

With this week's Fury Of Firestorm #13 Dan Jurgens takes over as full-time Writer and Artist. Although he has done both duties on previous titles he has never drawn Firestorm before. This wasn't a problem as he "got" Firestorm right from the beginning.

Jurgens plans to take this title into an entirely new direction from where he picked it up from the prior creative teams of Gail Simone, Ethan Van Sciver, and Joe Harris. Jurgens doesn't want to give too much away just yet but he did reveal that a few things were revealed in issue #0. Tying into that is the fact the title is now "The Nuclear Man", a change from the original  "The Nuclear Men".  Although Ronnie and Jason were both individual Firestorms since the reboot, Jurgens has reduced them to a single Firestorm again. Jurgens hopes that this will create some conflict among the teen boys while at the same time bonding them.

Jurgens also stated:

"I'm looking to recapture the basic feeling and elements that made Firestorm work in the first place," he said. "There was a time when Firestorm was one of the strongest characters and strongest sellers in the DCU. He represented a certain youthful breath of fresh air in the DCU and I want to bring that back. He's a fun character who tends to have fun, wild stories. That feeling has to be on the page and get across to the reader."

Jurgens also wants Firestorm to interact with the rest of the DCU; starting with a team-up with Captain Atom in issue #15.  Jurgens thinks these two heroes will be a good match as they have somewhat simlar powers and are most likely much more powerful than most folks assume that they are.

Be sure to check out The Fury Of Firestorm #13 on sale this Wednesday, October 24.

Firestorm is clearly a toxic character, I can't believe DC hasn't realized that yet and rebooted the DCU all over again just to get rid of him/them.

Firestorm should be playing croquet with Elvis and Cassandra Cain.

Your right though (just not the quote above though). The run before was pathetic. I'm kind of miffed cause the only run I've ever read of Firestorm I enjoyed was Dwayne McDuffie's take.

Firestorm can work provided he's forced to constantly deal with Captain Atom thereby forcing the two of them to be at each other's throats (much to the amusement of the readers) and giving the Trinity of the DCU more work to do...

Face it, nobody wants a nuclear-powered superhero these days, not Captain Atom and not Firestorm either. Remember Fukushima?

We want Green heroes these days, like that nice Swamp Thing I've been hearing so much about.

Has Chlorophyll Kid been re-booted yet?

He should find out he's a descendant of Poison Ivy.
Or Swamp Thing.
Or both somehow :D

They should definitely bring him back, the subs were one of the best things about the Legion.

Maybe Grant Morrison could completely revamp The Green Team all over again, but make them multi-billionaires who own wind farms and solar panel manufacturing plants (that don't go under and take millions of tax-payer dollars with them, like they do in real life).

And, of course, Abdul. The jerk! :x

Flame top was a fav of mine and looked poised to soar after brightest day.
Wow. Did dc drop the ball. One of their worst reboots. I'd go in a new direction too. The last one sucked

What about the whole Jason Rusch/Ronnie Raymond relationship? I loved the way they were portrayed in Brightest Day and even in the 'Batman:Brave & The Bold' cartoon show. Should DC keep them both as Firestorm/s?I have to say I'd miss Jason if DC decided to get rid of him (which I'm hoping is unlikely).... Maybe they could keep the idea that the two of them become a kind of Uber Firestorm (then spilt up into less powerful variations of it)...

I'm a Ronnie guy for sure but was willing to put up with a Ronnie Jason mix.
But what did we get? Gee I know Ethan tried, but that was just an awful reboot that did away with the great work tomasi did. Same could be said with Jonn and the hawks.

After seeing some of Jurgen's Superman, I think this move will end up being the final nail in Firestorm's coffin.

Just shelve the character already and try repackage him later down the line.
