E! Says Star Wars Episode 7 WIll Be Original Story

Sorry, Thrawn Fans, but sources are saying that the upcoming Star Wars sequel trilogy will be based on an original story.

Source: E! Online

When Disney announced yesterday that they had purchased Lucasfilm and would be making a new series of Star Wars movies, starting with Episode 7 in 2015, fans immediately began speculating on what the movies would be based on. Star Wars, in addition to the movies and cartoons most are familiar with, also consists of a large expanded universe of books, comics, video games, and hilarious television Christmas specials which are all considered canon.

Many fans were hoping that the new trilogy would be based on the Heir to the Empire Trilogy (or Thrawn Trilogy), a series of books by author Timothy Zahn that tells the story of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, and the rest of the Star Wars gang in the years after the defeat of the Empire in Return of the Jedi. However, E! Online is claiming that sources inside Lucasfilm say that the new trilogy will be based on an entirely new story:

"It's an original story," a LucasFilm source tells me.

In other words, forget the Star Wars novels. Forget the graphic novels. Forget everything you think you know about what happens to Luke Skywalker. According to my sources, Episode 7 will literally be nothing you've ever seen or read before from the Star Wars universe.

I also hear from several sources that, no matter what you may hear to the contrary, no director has been officially attached to the project.

So what does this mean for the expanded universe? Will the new story work alongside this, or is Disney going to do away with some or all of the expanded universe continuity? Get to speculating, Outhousers!

Sounds like fans of the last 30 years worth of novels and comics have been told that the stuff they've read doesn't matter.

Well, by a "source," not officially. But yeah.

Obviously, you're some skinny, single nerd living on the East Coast who probably derives value in life from wrestling matches, hoping that Wolverine gets to sleep with teenagers and engaging in casual drug use. You're literally the worst thing to happen to comics since Stan Lee.

This doesn't bode well for Darth Vertigo.

Better than being fans of the 70 years of DC comics prior to last year...

Ridiculous. Thrawn is not the only good Star Wars story that can be told.

I could see it being an original story but still incorporating elements from other stories.

Or just make it so far in the future that it is irrelevant if it incorporates those elements or not.
