Chuck Dixon Hopes Stephanie Brown Does Not Appear in Nu52

The latest in the ongoing toxic characters saga at DC Comics: Chuck Dixon is glad Steph is not in the DCnU!

Source: /r/comicbooks

The Outhouse has long reported on the ongoing saga of dickery at DC Comics regarding the "toxic" characters Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain. DC executives, led by Dan Didio, have allegedly been involved in a conspiracy to prevent the characters from appearing anywhere. This corporate vendetta has possibly manifested in the replacement of Brown as Batgirl by Barbara Gordon in the Nu52, the replacement of Brown with Gordon as Nightwing in the Smallville comic, a hiatus for DC's Young Justice cartoon starting with an episode Brown was supposed to appear in, and multiple hair color changes in various DC comics. Though the conspiracy theory seems absurd to some, the evidence is overwhelming, and the saga itself is like the goose that laid the golden egg for comic book bloggers.

Today, Chuck Dixon, the creator of Brown, is doing an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit, and Dixon had the following comments about Brown in the DCnU:

I'd keep Steph out of the New 52. It's like letting your kid play in traffic! Then, when it's all over, bring her back.

So we can take it that not only is Dixon not a fan of the Nu52, but he also expects the experiment to end and the OldDCU continuity to return eventually.

He's got a point. The Nu52 is a undercooked idea destined to fail.

I agree with him when it comes to ANY of the characters, including Zechs.
My problem is with fanboy excuses for the crap Dan and the Gang do.

So we can take it that not only is Dixon not a fan of the Nu52, but he also expects the experiment to end and the OldDCU continuity to return eventually.

And he's right, of course. As a certain person here has noted, these crappy new redesigns aren't even showing up in DC licensed products! Nobody but sheep-ish fanboys want Jim Lee's lame '90s-Throwback Armor-Superman.

So yeah, the characters will revert as soon as someone with a few active brain cells or more finally takes over from Dan and the Gang.

For something that's destined to fail, isn't it odd that it's still going strong ? :smt017

I think they're going with this angle on the eventually fail alas. For the fact that DC has gotten rid of how many creators and burn the bridges of some in only the first year of this alone? Least that's what I get other than that.. I see your point. Which reminds me I have to send the other issues I owe of Cass Cain Batgirl to Blue Mole now. :smt102

And I wonder aloud once again: how low do sales need to be before DC pulls the plug on the New 52?

Of the New 52 books, I've only been reading Snyder's Batman. Tried O.M.A.C. and liked it, but that's not around any longer to support. Tried Swamp Thing and Animal Man. Liked them, but I'm not in any rush to get caught up. Tried Batwoman and despised it.

Basically, I keep hearing great stuff about Flash and Wonder Woman, but kind of want to avoid reading them if they're just going to be wiped away in a year.

What statistics are you going by ? According to Diamond stats (take these as you will since some of you have issues with them  ):

DC had the top Retail Share and Unit Share for September. Of the Top 20 Comics for September, 13 titles were DC.

For August, DC had the top Market Share. Of the Top 10 Comics for that month, 5 were DC.
You go refer to Diamonds previous months stats to see the full history.

Yes, some individual titles have had consistent low sales, some have been cancelled, but overall the entire line has been going strong.

I read all the 52 for the first year and it was painful in some books but after that time I have dropped what I no longer like and no longer found engaging and just focused on mostly the core books.

Also I strongly doubt we will ever see the switch back to the older continuity, even if Dan and Geoff ever leave, it will just be a retooling of this current universe.

I usually pay attention to however many copies are sold. What stat is that?
