DC to Exploit Dollar Bill for Before Watchmen One-Shot

Len Wein and Steve Rude will handle creative duties on the latest attempt to squeeze more money out of the Watchmen franchise.

Dollar Bill only appeared for a few panels in the original Watchmen series, but that won't stop DC from trying to cash in on another book with the Before Watchmen label. From Len Wein and artist Steve Rude comes the latest in a long line of comics designed to shit all over legendary creator Alan Moore - Before Watchmen: Dollar Bill.

Bill, a superhero sponsored by a bank, is an ironic choice for a comic book franchise that exists solely to make money, with absolutely no creative impetus. According to Wein, there's absolutely no reason to make this comic, as the character isn't even interesting. Wein told MTV Geek, "the difference between [Bill] and the rest of the characters is that he kind of accepts his lot in life. He just copes. He's one of those guys who just gets by, he does what he needs to do."

We look forward to seeing DC make a bajillion dollars off of Dollar Bill comics and merchandise, much to the chagrin of Moore, who was crazy even before DC started destroying his creative legacy for the sake of profit. We asked Moore for comment, but when he responded, "I can't dislike you, but I will say this to you: you haven't got long before you are all going to kill yourselves, because you are all crazy. And you can project it back at me, but I am only what lives inside each and every one of you," we realized we had accidentally contact Charles Manson instead. Though, to be fair, Moore would probably have said something similar.

Before Watchmen: Dollar Bill hits stores January 30th.

Haha. It can join the rest of the pre-Watchmen crap that's wasting space in LCSes across the country, not selling.

The best story of the past year is when Wein did that interview with that reporter who exposed his "handler" Pamela. :lol:

That was pathetic of Wein. Just fucking pathetic. It's cowardly of DC corporate to have done that, no doubt, but for Wein to have put himself out there to be whored out like that, that guy I have no respect for whatsoever.

And it's all biting them in the ass--sales drop-offs for all the BW crap are staggering, and the reviews are not turning that train around, either. At this point, I'm not sure what any of the people working on those books could do that would entice me to put another dollar in their pockets. I have no problem with boycotting the entire lot of them from here on out. That includes Darwyn Cooke, before anyone says anything. Fuck him too.

And again, look at all the good it did them. It made them all look like an exhibition of horses' asses, and the line of shit is already dead in the water even before they get to stuff like BW: Dollar Bill and BW: Moloch. :lol:

Herald and I can high-five in agreement on that one.

And let's not forget, they sold that many of the first issues because shops, many of whom deliberately tried not to over-order, largely over-ordered them and they can still be found in most of those same shops.
