Whoops.

Umizaru/Say Hello to Black Jack's Sato Cuts Ties with Fuji TV

Manga creator Shuho Sato (Say Hello to Black Jack, The Isle of TOKKOU) said on Friday that he is cutting ties with Fuji TV. As a result, Sato said there would "absolutely" be no more live-action films based on his Umizaru coast guard manga.

Sato claimed that Fuji TV flooded his agency with sudden interviews without an appointment. He said that the first time this happened, the chief producer of Fuji TV's news center did apologize to him. However, Sato said he received no apology when it happened again.

In addition, Sato claimed that Fuji TV sold Umizaru film-related books without a contract. Sato said on his Twitter account that he is very angry with Fuji TV and the company no longer deserves his trust.

Another Gainax thing?

Gainax's Live-Action Hero Comedy EA's Rock Gets Film

The anime studio Gainax and director Nobuhiro Yamashita's live-action hero comedy series EA's Rock is spawning a compilation film, which will play in two theaters as part of different festivals on November 3.

The story follows the former members of the "Kankaku Senshi Gokan Five," a super sentai group that successfully protected the Earth's peace and now goes about their daily lives in other occupations due to a lack of hero-related work. 45-year-old Gokan Red (Hiroshi Yamamoto) works as a bartender at Tokyo's Shooting Bar EA, a combination airsoft shooting range and bar run by the former Gokan Blue (Jō Hyuuga). Momoka (Kotone Sheena), a 17-year-old high school girl, joins the team part-time as a waitress and Gokan Peach.

Ghost in the Shell's Oshii to Helm His 1st Live-Action English Film

The Nakamura Group Advantage, a Canadian entertainment company, announced on Monday that the next film from acclaimed anime director Mamoru Oshii will be a live-action military science-fiction thriller called The Last Druid: Garm Wars. The Nakamura Group Advantage describes the story:

Not a TOTAL surprise, but nice to hear...

Spanish Distributor Reveals Live-Action "Rurouni Kenshin" Sequel in Development

The live-action Rurouni Kenshin movie has done pretty well critically and pretty well commercially ($36.7 million in Japan, $25 million internationally). So, it's little surprise that a sequel is going to be produced. Semi-official word comes that this is in fact the case with Spanish distributor Mediatres Studio telling a crowd at XVIII Salón del Manga de Barcelona that a sequel that stays true to the manga is being planned.
