Darth Didio Speaks on Hellblazer Cancellation

DC's glorious leader Dan Didio speaks out on the cancellation of Vertigo's Hellblazer, which has had fanboys' panties in a bunch since yesterday.

In news that truly did not bode well for Vertigo, DC Comics announced yesterday morning that they would be cancelling the beloved Vertigo series Hellblazer and replacing it with a PG-13 Nu52 Constantine series, sure to fail to live up the high standards of its predecessor. Needless to say, fans were not pleased. Never one to miss an opportunity to rub salt in wounds, DC head honcho Dan Didio released the following statement on DC's website later in the afternoon:

We're supremely proud of Vertigo's HELLBLAZER, one of the most critically-acclaimed series we've published. Issue #300 concludes this chapter of Constantine’s epic, smoke-filled story in style and with the energy, talent and creativity fans have come to expect from Peter Milligan, Giuseppe Camuncoli and Stefano Landini. And no one should worry that John is going to hang-up his trenchcoat - he lives on in March, in the pages of the all-new DC Comics New 52 ongoing series, CONSTANTINE, by writer Robert Venditti and artist Renato Guedes.

Well, that clears everything up. Dan is proud of Hellblazer. It was a great comic that everyone loved, so it made perfect sense to replace it with something people are predisposed to hate. Everything's settled then, right? Good. Move along now.

That was selling under 10,000 copies.

I've been reading it monthly since #230, Milligan's run has been great.

Nacireman, no offense but if you think that cancelling a series that was outside of the DCnU and then merging it into the DCnU is a way to "fix it" then I am worried that you don't completely understand what the word fix actually means.
