Pixar Star Michael Arndt Has Written Star Wars Episode 7 Treatment, May Write Screenplay

Michael Arndt, who wrote Toy Story 3, has written a nearly fifty page treatment for Star Wars: Episode 7 and may end up writing the script.

Source: Vulture

Some big Star Wars: Episode 7 news and a lot of accompanying speculation hit the web a little while ago. Vulture reports that Michael Arndt, who has won an Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine and was nominated for one for Toy Story 3, has written a forty-something page treatment for Disney's upcoming Star Wars: Episode 7. In addition, Vulture claims that sources confirm that Disney would like to get original trilogy actors Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford to return to reprise their roles as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo, and that characters will be "much older" in the film. Presumably, the film will be set thirty to forty years after the events of Return of the Jedi, to match up with the actors real life ages. Finally, Vulture says that the scripts will be passed on to top industry directors like Brad Bird, Stephen Spielberg, and J. J. Abrams, along with, presumably, other rumored favorites like Matthew Vaughn. It is not a sure thing that Arndt will write the entire screenplay, but it is a strong possibility.

Really hope this lives up to expectations & lessons were properly learned from The Phantom Menace.

What expectations? Is there already something to live up to? "Better than Phantom Menace" isn't an expectation, it's a given, and not much to live up to.

I think that, with a new company in charge, a lot of people are willing to forgive the prequels and have become excited about the prospect of another Star Wars trilogy.

Which, given the bits of info released so far, would be wildly optimistic of them.

I don't think so. People have mostly been positive about the Clone Wars cartoon, and the new trilogy will be a new story starring a new cast (it's obvious that it's not going to focus around a 70 year old Luke Skywalker), and it's being made by Disney, who made The Avengers, which fanboys love.

Carrie Fischer has said she's in for a cameo, but do we want to see her as Leia at this point? shudder..

Halfway through last season it turned the corner. It's been really good for a while now.
