DAVID HINE and DOUG BRAITHWAITE are re-united for Season One of this science-fiction crime thriller. A uniquely skilled team arrives on a frontier planet to investigate a series of bizarre and violent deaths. Forced to rely on primitive technology, they soon learn what it means to be aliens in a hostile environment. If they are to unravel the mysteries of Amaranth they will also have to learn what it is to be human.

I tried Higher Earth #1 because I found a copy for 50 cents at HeroesCon. It was mediocre.

I got some free beater copies of a silver age comic Charlton and Dell put out back then for a little while called "Ponytail". It's classic 1950ish comic strip humor (even though it was first published in 1960), the cartoonist's name is Lee Holley. His style is so cool, you can see all the influence of his previous years ghosting on Dennis The Menace--his lines are amazing!

On paper, this should be an entertaining comic based on the talent involved. Unfortunately, it fails to meet expectations. That's not to say that's a wretched comic. The structure of the Storm Dogs universe is developed with established societal and technological norms that make sense. What keeps Storm Dogs from being a good comic is a lack of emotional connection. Most of the moments within the comic, with the exception of the sudden breakup between Jered and Michael, feel by the numbers. The art is pleasant, but that can't make this comic worth a purchase.

I'm tryin' to shame your boy, son. Hine has been sittin' pretty with the critics, nahmean. It's been a hot minute since he's been humbled, nahmean. Fuckers like that need to get their head right.

In all honesty, maybe it'll read better in trade. It didn't grab me like his Arkham material. I will say that I'm probably missing out on his Darkness material, but there's only so much to read on a limited budget.
