Batman: Lil' Gotham #2, the cartoonish digital series, will celebrate another holiday tomorrow by fooling fans of Stephanie Brown into thinking they'll finally see her in a comic.
Source: DC blog Like Lucy convincing Charlie Brown she's going to finally let him kick the football, DC Comics last month had fans of "toxic" characters Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain believing that the two former Batgirls would be making an appearance in Batman: Lil' Gotham #1, a kid-friendly digital series that saw Batman protecting the streets of Gotham city while children trick-or-treated on Halloween. Of course, last minute color changes resulted in conspiracy theories and fan butthurt, and the football was yanked away at the last second, causing Steph and Cass fans to fly up into the air, tumbling over and over on their way to another embarrassing and painful fall. Meanwhile, back at DC headquarters, Dan Didio must have been laughing his ass off.
Today, DC is teasing the second issue of Lil' Gotham, out tomorrow, which will focus on Thanksgiving, and though nothing in their press release makes any reference whatsoever to Steph, Cass, or Batgirl in general, we've still got a week to go before the comic comes out, and we're sure DC will hold out that enticing football once more.
We looked for Dan Didio to talk about the issue, and found the DC Co-Publisher standing behind a wooden booth advertising Psychology consultations for only five cents. We asked Dan point blank whether he intended to allow Stephanie or Cass to appear in the comic. Dan rattled a can containing a few nickels at us, refusing to speak. We dropped a nickel in the can.
"Oh, suuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrreeee," said Didio, choking back laughter. "Yes, Stephanie Brown will appear in Lil' Gotham #2. Bwahahaha!"
"Surely, you can't be serious," we answered. "There are tears coming out of your eyes. Are you just screwing with people?"
"I'm always serious," said Didio. "And don't call me Shirley."
Well, there you have it. Stephanie Brown will appear in Lil' Gotham #2 this week. Confirmed. Don't forget to pick up your copy in the DC Digital Store tomorrow!
