Empire Strikes Back Screenwriter to Return for Star Wars Episode 8 and 9?

Another week, another Star Wars rumor, another batch of sweet, sweet unique hits.

Ain't It Cool News, a website that hasn't had a redesign since Empire Strikes Back was in theaters, is reporting that Disney is looking to Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan to write two of the new Star Wars movies, announced a few weeks ago as part of an unholy union between Disney and Lucasfilm. Kasdan, of course, wrote The Empire Strikes Back, the Star Wars movie generally regarded as the least ruined by George Lucas. The pair would write Episodes 8 and 9, following Episode 7, which will be written by Michael Arndt.

Balancing out the exciting news of Kasdan, however, is Kinberg, who worked on X-Men 3: The Last Stand, a movie which can send fanboys into fits of nerd rage at the mere mention of its title. Widely regarded as the worst movie ever made, the film was successful at the box office. Kinberg did later return to produce X-Men: First Class, which fared better in the opinions of fanboys, and was also one of the writers of Sherlock Holmes. However, his list of awful, abysmal abortions of movies includes Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Fantastic Four, and Jumper.

In any case, fans should be excited to learn that Disney is at least trying to do something right for the new Star Wars movies, and The Outhouse will be excited to recieve their delicious unique hits, as we've gone almost a week and a half without a Star Wars rumor to feed our hit addiction.

We'll keep you updated as more rumors break, and, if no new rumors break, we'll make something up next week.
