Rumors are circulating that Disney hopes to treat the Star Wars universe like the Avengers franchise, spinning off into multiple movies each year focusing on different characters.

A few weeks ago, we reported on Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan signing on as screenwriters for some of the new Star Wars films. Speculation at that time was that the pair would write Episode 8 and Episode 9, as Michael Arndt was already on board for Episode 7. However, this may not be the case at all.

The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that the pair may be writing different movies altogether, as Disney moves to expand the Star Wars movieverse into an Avengers-like franchise, with multiple movies exploring different characters while the main series focuses on the Skywalker story. Newsarama even goes so far as to speculate that the production schedule could move from one movie every two to three years to multiple movies each year, similar to Avengers.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing an X-Wing or Bounty Hunter/criminal underworld movie. That'd be pretty cool.
