Rumors are swirling that DC is about to make a huge announcement about Gail Simone's next book. Could it be...?

Rich Johnston over at Bleeding Cool is reporting that, despite being fired from Batgirl via email, Gail Simone plans on sticking with DC Comics. Johnston goes on to imply that the news of Simone's next project will be so big it will make you spit out your champagne. What could it be? The obvious answer is a Stephanie Brown book. Johnston may not come right out and say it in the article, but that is his loss of sweet, sweet unique hits, because we're saying it: Stephanie Brown book from Gail Simone. It's the only thing that makes sense. After making fools of themselves in public with their handling of the Simone situation, how could DC possibly make it up to both Simone and fans? This is how. Stephanie Brown book by Gail Simone.

Brown has not yet appeared in the DCnU, and DC leader Dan Didio has trolled fans of the character on the internet, at conventions, and even in print for over a year, allegedly saying that the character is toxic and refusing to give fans a book featuring Brown or fellow disgraced Batgirl Cassandra Cain.

Of course, we said this would happen back in August.*

Johnston suggests that DC may make the announcement tomorrow since it's their last chance before the holidays, but even if the announcement does not happen, Johnston seems pretty sure that the news is for real.

So, you heard it here first, readers. Stephanie Brown book by Gail Simone. If we're right, we will accept your praise and adoration in the form of unmarked hundred dollar bills. If we're wrong, well... blame Rich Johnston. That snake.

I still don't think you should really want the DCnU version of Steph or Cass, given how horribly most of the other characters turned out.
