Shenanigans at Platinum Studios (Cowboys and Aliens)

Shenanigans at Platinum Studios (Cowboys and Aliens)

The company, whose sole purpose appears to be to make Cowboys and Aliens stuff, held a drama-filled conference call.

Comics are a business. No, really. You might think, with editors, creators, and executives often acting with about the same level of maturity as the mediums' obsessed man-child fandom, that it's all fun and games. But it's not, as evidenced by the reports popping up about yesterday's conference call for investors in Platinum Studios, a company that exists, seemingly, for no other reason than to make Cowboys and Aliens products.

The call was scheduled to deal with a variety of issues at the company, such as why their stock was worth $0.00, and why everyone involved wasn't pushing around wheelbarrows full of money (hint - it's because the only product you make is Cowboys and Aliens, and it stinks). Apparently there has been some drama between company president Chris Beall and CEO Scott Rosenberg, who have both been comically trying to fire each other. Neither one showed up on the call, but afterward, Beall publicly released a letter telling Rosenberg he was fired, to which Rosenberg responded, "Nuh uh. You're fired." Rich Johnston, fly on the wall at the meeting (literally - he's an animagus), posted some documents sent out to investors by Beall alleging all sorts of embezzlement by Rosenberg, which you can read here.

Throughout all of this, it seems that no one on the call thought of exploring the idea that the company try making something other than Cowboys and Aliens products. "Cowboys and Aliens was a major motion picture," we imagine the reasoning must go, "so surely there are people out there that care about Cowboys and Aliens." Yes, and all of those people are probably on the Platinum Studios board of investors, leaving no one to actually buy this crap.

Hopefully, Platinum Studios can get their act together in time to produce a sequel to Cowboys and Aliens, which will no doubt be very well recieved by members of Platinum Studios.
