Francesco Francavilla to Fill In on Hawkeye

Francesco Francavilla will take over art duties on Hawkeye for issue #10 and #12, and we have absolutely nothing funny to say about it.

Source: Press Release

Marvel's solicits are coming out to day, but in order to thwart Rich Johnston's efforts to make all of Marvel's announcements before then, the House of Ideas sent out a press release this morning telling fans that Francesco Francavilla, known hereafter as FrancFranc so we don't have to remember how to spell his name again, will be filling in for David Aja on Hawkeye #10 and #12. Normally, The Outhouse would normally now make fun of FrancFranc or Aja, but honestly, we think they're both swell, and we have nothing bad to say about them. Even Matt Fraction, who wrote Fear Itself, gets a pass because his writing on Hawkeye has also been fantastic, plus Avengers vs. X-Men kinda made Fear Itself look good by comparison, in the same way that World War 2 made World War 1 look like not much of a big deal.

Marvels full solicitations will be published at 12PM Eastern time, or shortly thereafter, depending on whether this reporter is on the bus at that time. Here's the press release:

Eisner-Award Winner Francesco Francavilla Joins HAWKEYE in April

This April, a deadly super villain targets Clint Barton and all he holds dear—but luckily he’s got Eisner-Award winning artist Francesco Francavilla joining him for Hawkeye #10! New York Times best-selling writer Matt Fraction (Fantastic Four, FF) kicks off an all new story- providing the perfect jumping on point for new readers- as the Avenger known as Hawkeye finds himself facing his deadliest opponent yet. Who pulled the trigger? Where have you seen him before? The answers will send everyone’s favorite archer reeling in the hit series that ComicBookResources.com deems. “the coolest comic book being published today, with each issue bursting forth with ridiculous ideas at a breakneck pace while still remaining accessible and grounded.”

“On Hawkeye we’ve been blessed with not only one of the biggest writers in comics with Matt Fraction, but also some of the best artists like David Aja, Javier Pulido and now Francesco Francavilla,” said Stephen Wacker, Senior Editor, Marvel Entertainment. “Though he’s only on the series for issues #10 & #12, Francesco is going to leave his mark on Clint with some of the most beautiful art you’ll see all year!”

New story. New Threats. New Artist. You cannot miss Fraction & Francavilla teaming up for the first time ever in Hawkeye #10, on-sale in April!

Awesome, Francavilla is a great artist, and I think he is a good fit for the artistic tone Aja has set for Hawkeye.

I think it was meant to abbreviate Francisco Francavilla, not Fraction/Francavilla. There is way too much fra in this creative team for me either way though.

I think all we need are Paolo Rivera and Marcos Martin to have a run on this title, and then every great-artist-with-that-particular-style at Marvel will have worked on Fraction's Hawkeye.

No, at least not in his own book. I don't know about Avengers.

Are they? I know Paolo is still doing plenty of covers at Marvel. Have they said what they'll be doing? I'd be all over that.
