Captain Harlock Film To Launch Fall 2013

Plus a new trailer.

Source: Space Pirate Captain Harlock Remake's English Teaser Posted

Originally teased in a proof of concept piece in 2010, the Space Pirate Captain Harlock film was revealed by studio Toei as being released in Fall 2013. The film will use computer graphics for its animation and will have Toei Animation's highest budget, USD $30 million dollars plus.

Additionally, an international version of the Japanese trailer was released:

There was no official announcement of the film being released outside of Japan; but with Toei's other project Gaiking with its outside partners, and the English-voiced trailer; there is hope.

Created by Leiji Matsumoto (Space Battleship Yamato, Galaxy Express 999), Captain Harlock first appeared in Adventures of a Honeybee (1953), but did not become famous until he receieved his own series in 1978. There have been many versions of Harlock over the years but he is mostly portrayed as rebellious but noble, and a very skilled and fearless, space pirate.

Is there a subtitled version of Yamato 2199 out there?

But yeah, this Captain Harlock stuff looks awesome. Hope it has a lot of plant women dying horrible, screaming, burning deaths in it like the cartoon did.

Pretty cool. I still like the classic look better. I love Matsumoto's naval battleship in space aesthetic.

Matsumoto always had the best designs for his spaceships. Personally, my favorite was always the Galaxy Express 999. The absolutely ludacrious concept of a steam engine effortlessly traversing between planets has always been particularly brilliant to me.

I'm wondering when Hollywood tries to make a US version of Captain Harlock or Yamato/Star Blazers.

Hopefully never. They would just ruin it.
