seanhowe: List of Marvel Characters, Ranked by Importance....

seanhowe:

List of Marvel Characters, Ranked by Importance. Circa 1972.

Sean Howe, author of Marvel Comics: The Untold Story, posted this 1972 memo by Stan Lee.

It ranks the importance of Marvel characters: Very Important (***), Important (**), and Not So Important (*). In the latter category are two Western characters, Ringo Kid and the “Old” Ghost Rider, and Quicksilver.

All of the female characters are ranked as Important—none of them are ranked as Very Important. This really stands out with the Fantastic Four, where all the other team members, and the team itself, is ranked Very Important, but Invisible Girl only gets two asterisks.

He was better than most 1960s comics writers.

No, no. He wrote terrible female characters. For Pete's sake, Punchy, his females had thoughts and opinions! They didn't moon foolishly over Superman! They never tried to trick, decieve, or blackmail their Super Paramours into marriage!

They were utterly unlike every other female character in comics at the time, and hence terribly written. :P

Mm, no they really weren't that different at all. Stan's women never "mooned foolishly"?

Have you ever read any of his comics?

Also, you're either trying to compare how Lois was depicted before Stan was writing Marvel comics, or you haven't actually read the comics portraying her differently as the '60s moved to the '70s.

In other words, it sounds like you're parroting something you read somewhere to me. :P

I resent that, I would never post anything here that I wouldn't carve in soap bubbles.

Women sure must've loved being presented like this for the very first time! Of course, he matured into the writer of Stripperella later, I will grant you that.

Only two villains, odd. Maybe there's another page somewhere. I mean, what's the Silver Surfer without Galactus?

Come on guys, the sexual ability of super heroes is really none of our business. Lots of people have that problem, and there are medications out there that can...

Oh, importance. Nevermind, carry on.

At the risk of taking this too seriously, what does 'important' mean here? The money makers? The ones to push? The ones they most want to have sex with? What?
