The DC scribe is stepping away from Green Lantern after nearly a decade.

Nearly a decade after revitalizing the franchise with Green Lantern: Rebirth, Geoff Johns has announced his decision to step away from the Green Lantern franchise to the Associated Press. Johns stated that he felt he had reached a good end point with the series and decided to pass the reins to a new writer, which will probably be determined at this week's DC creative summit in Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to the report, Johns will continue to write Aquaman (a title that he had been rumored to be stepping away from) along with two Justice League titles.

Johns' last issue will be released in May 2013 and will contain 64 pages.

Johns will take the time to focus on his two Justice League books, and continue to write Aquaman for DC Comics.

Wow, that really is shocking. I knew that Johns couldn't stay on the title forever but it felt like he was trying to. Wonder who they will get to replace him.

Whoever it is, they'll be sacked and replaced and then rehired before their first issue.

Good choices and I would be interested to see what they did with the character, although personally, I would really like to see what DnA could do with the title. Honestly, I just hope they don't give it to Lobdell.

This is a good thing. What made him such an enjoyable writer in the beginning was his intimate touch (that's what she said) with the characters, and as he become involved with more and more of the DCU the worse his writing became. I know he's not stepping down from his executive position, but hopefully his writing will improve with less of a workload.
