These characters have been Avengers for a fairly long time now, your definition of who is an Avenger should have adjusted because you've seen them as Avengers, being an Avenger obviously fits into their characters, because they are Avengers!

Except that they weren't written like the Avengers. I don't see how to make this any clearer. Okay, how about this - Nextwave. What if Jeph Loeb took over Nextwave. We ALL know how he'd write it. Would you still be calling them the Nextwave team in one year.

Because 5 years of a non-Avengers team compared to 40+ years otherwise says they were not written like Avengers. They weren't even written like the West Coast Avengers.

If Bendis' take stays around for 40 years too, will it still not be the Avengers?

That won't happen.

See now, here is where I differ. I wholly believe that the Avengers rosters should change. Hell, Cap even mentions something like that in Avengers Forever. The tone of the book and the uber-street levelness is what kills it for me.

Not too mention Bendis putting his pet characters over EVERYONE else (luke, jessica) at the cost of the story.

Exactly.

To me the Avengers should represent Earths Mightiest Heroes. Not Manhattens Mightiest Heroes.

But they have always represented New York over everywhere else, just like the entire MU.

Plus, Wolverine is from Canada :p

I know he is!!! I am waiting for that to retcon that.

But back to the team, the Avengers have always been all over the world AND space. I cannot see this team doing that. Mighty yes, but not the New Avengers.

They've been where? Japan? Savage Land? Sentry's house? Hell, Roger Stern could fit all that into 1 issue and it's taken Bendis 50! :-D

So they're not Avengers because they haven't been to space?

Uh huh.

It won't. It won't last past Bendis losing interest or moving on. Mighty is proof of that.

I think New Avengers has been sufficiently popular for the writer after Bendis to not want to change the tone too much.

When Bendis leaves, I hope they just cancel NA and restart at issue 500.

I'd expect that to happen to Mighty instead.

NA won't continue past Bendis.

It won't happen, Bendis turned the Avengers into what the X-Men was in the 80s and 90s, he got a lot more people reading the book, and that's why there are now 4 Avengers ongoings.

When he leaves, they'll either continue his tone, or get someone else to go in another new direction.

No, it'll be canceled. See: The 90s.
