Why would Marvel cancel a top-selling series?

You're just projecting your insanity onto the statistics now.

New Avengers is popular, partly because of Bendis, but probably mostly because of the characters, so if Bendis leaves, Marvel would have to be Didio-stupid to cancel it and go back to a less successful Avengers book.

I'm not dissing old-school Avengers, I'm a massive fan of Busiek's run, but Bendis' run is just as valid an Avengers line-up, and it is here to stay.

These characters have been Avengers for a fairly long time now, your definition of who is an Avenger should have adjusted because you've seen them as Avengers, being an Avenger obviously fits into their characters, because they are Avengers!

I agree with this, the Avengers is just another word for "superhero team" in my mind. So essentially Bendis' team are Avengers because they're together as a team in the book with the Avengers title.

It's not insanity, it's called being familiar with the way Marvel does business. NA will not last long past Bendis.

The title is going to have to change over time. Different tones will come and go.

Plus, the word 'New' does give a clue that it may be different in some ways...

They won't cancel New Avengers when Bendis leaves. It sells too well, and he's only part of the formula. Just keep Wolverine and Spidey on the roster, maybe add Daredevil or Punisher at some point, and make sure the book is the centerpiece of Marvel's endless parade of "events" and it will do fine.

Problem I found, I thought there was no such thing as chaos magic according to Bendis and Dissassembled. But the tome they were after is the was the chaos magic bible.

Slott is retconning all of Marvel stupidity to restore the universe to a simpler, funner time; and he'll be doing it all as the writer of this book. :P

"New" is just another way to say old.

The only characters that weren't previously Avengers that I now consider Avengers are Luke Cage and Jessica Drew. Because they were the only characters that mattered for 50 issues.

I've never been opposed to Spidey or Sniktbub, but Bendis has yet to convince me that they are anything other than a great comedic duo.

Nothing done throughout the series has solidified the team as anything more than a group of disparate, desperate heroes clinging together for survival.

Please tell me when Marvel have cancelled a 50 issue + series which tops the sales charts?

And as I remember, Bendis said he's on the Avengers book for a long time yet, I expect him to hit #100.

Maybe that's the point?

Just got this book last night. Not as solid as #21 IMO, but Slott has the 80's feel to his Avengers book and count me in as another 30+ guy that likes this direction for the book.
