Desperate Comics Media Reports on Wonder Woman Documentary

You know it's a slow news day when we're talking about a Wonder Woman doc on PBS.

News broke this morning that Wonder Woman: The Untold Story of American Superheroines will air on PBS on April 15 at 10PM, kicking off a new round of movie rumors in the online comics media, which is growing increasingly desperate on this slow news day. It was recently revealed that the Justice League movie was a complete fabrication by over-excited fanboys pretending to be reporters, putting the kibosh on what was becoming a weekly obsession in our little online community. Without the Justice League movie to speculate wildly about, the comics media needs a new exciting project to report on. In the absence of anything like that, a Wonder Woman doc will have to do.

"The documentary looks at the evolution and legacy of Wonder Woman, examining her status as the definitive superheroine and how the character has changed through the times – while continuing to influence and inspire fans," said IGN's Eric Goldman, who reportedly slipped into a coma after writing an article about a story that is so boring.

iFanboy's Connor Kilpatrick took a different approach, tying the documentary into the ongoing saga of gender inequality. "From a lack of female creators at the top publishers to the lack of starring vehicles in various media for female superheroes, gender equality in mainstream comics has been among the foremost issues facing comic books today," whined Kilpatrick. "Enter filmmakers Kristy Guevara-Flanagan and Kelcey Edwards and their new film, Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines..."

Kilpatrick has a point. With recent articles on the web complaining about the treatment of homosexuals and African Americans in comics, complaining about sexism and misogyny has seemingly taken a back seat. "It's a sad state of affairs when women can't even get equal representation in the realm of sanctimonious bitching about equal representation," we imagine Kilpatrick was thinking when he wrote the article.

MTV Geek's Charles Webb got in on the action as well. "Want to see some smart thinkers and entertainers talk about the legacy of Wonder Woman?" asked Webb.

"No!" replied everyone on the internet, as no one cares about Wonder Woman.

Even when talking about a factual documentary, however, some reporters just couldn't help themselves from engaging in rampant speculation. "I've heard rumors that Joseph Gordon Levitt will play Wonder Woman in the documentary," said Gus Sterlingham, a reporter for ComicBooks.net. We explained that it wasn't really that kind of movie, but Sterlingham grabbed us desperately by our shirt and pulled us close to him so that we could see the bloodshot lines in his crazed eyes.

"JGL has to play someone in something!" Sterlingham insisted as his hot, spoiled breath in our face made us wince. "Eventually, I'm going to be right! You'll see! You'll all see!"

We left Sterlingham, sobbing quietly and alone, and headed back to the Outhouse Newsroom to compose a story of our own. While we work on that, check out this trailer for the movie, which debuted as last year's SWSX, known widely as "that comic con where no one can remember what the initials stand for."
