Maybe the prior stories but so far this arc has been 180 degrees away from those

I'd say more like 45 degrees. It's clearly better than the first 14 issues or so (but then, that's a tremendously low bar to have to clear), but it's still as mediocre as the day is long. Reis deserves better than mediocre

Or he fired the Interns he had Ghost writing the series because he was overextended.

Either way, I agree JL is finally legit with this arc.

Isn't that the truth. Still not feeling cyborg as a founder. He stands out like a teen Titan trying to hang with the big guns.

i think it's more that he really wanted aquaman front and center so badly that he finally had incentive to try putting effort into it.

johns usually puts all his effort in whatever he really, really wants to work on and totally phone in everything else he works on.

as a writer he has had a very poor work ethic when it comes to producing quality since infinite crisis IMO.

That doesn't bode well post-arc.

I love what he's doing with Shazam, hopefully that will keep Jones motivated when Cap shows up on the team full time.
Proof is imminent...

Reis is incredible. But I find that double-page spread is way too busy.

Every time I open a DC book now, it seems that there are 100 characters and bright glowing lights featured in panel after panel.

Batman is the exception. But JL and GL ... they all seem too cluttered for me. But I don't read 'em, so maybe my impression is off.

Yeah, that 2-page spread is a bit busy. Hopefully it looks clearer on the full-size printed page. Also I would guess that Reis is trying to portray the chaos caused by Orm and his all-out invasion using the Atlantean War Protocols.
