Source: "BATWOMAN" #17 PUTS MARRIAGE EQUALITY IN THE SPOTLIGHT This week’s Batwoman #17 ends with Batwoman (Kate Kane) revealing her secret identity to her girlfriend, Maggie Sawyer, and proposing marriage, and this is, apparently, still news. Here at the Outhouse, the world’s leading civil rights website, we are not all that sure why after Archie, Astonishing X-Men, The Authority, and any independent comic ever this is still something that news sites report on as if it’s new news.
Some more cynical readers might say that this is an attempt to “even out” the news that noted gay basher, Orson Scott Card, will be writing a Superman book, to that we respond: “Oh, c’mon!” Batwoman #17 was written well before DC hired Card and this is nothing more than a (albeit positive) coincidence.
It is unclear if DC will continue to try and catch up to Marvel circa May 2012 and actually go through with the wedding or if Kate and Maggie will mirror their male counter-parts in Earth 2 and have their love story tragically cut short before One Million Moms can create even more free press for the comic book company.
That’s right, DC has already had a gay proposal recently, but this one is still such a big deal that there are enough news stories about it for us to mock and ridicule.
So, what do you think? Are you shocked and appalled at this from a moral point of view? Are you blown away by the obvious cash grabbiness of it all? Do you care one bit about this issue or even this comic book? What direction will the white knights take this and what exactly about Batwoman’s proposal will make them angry? Are these people ever pleased? Leave your comments here in the facebook feed or even in the forums.
Stay tuned to any comic book site on the internet (The Outhouse is the best option) for updates.
