More Casting News for Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy

After it looked like Guardians of the Galaxy had found their Drax the Destroyer in Jason Momoa, more actors continue to be screen tested.

Source: ComicBookMovie.com

After reporting a few days ago that actor Jason Momoa, best known for his role as Khal Drago in Game of Thrones and unfortunately as Conan in the failed reboot, had been offered the role of Drax the Destroyer after his screen test, the negotiations have apparently fallen through and Marvel is screen testing actors again.

Jason Momoa could be a good choice for the role and despite his last two films not being big hits, he continues to be a fan favorite for the role.  Director James Gunn has said however that the film is "not cast-dependent," adding, "we could make a movie with unknowns if we wanted to."   Is he repeating Terrence Howard's mistake when he asked for too much to reprise his role in Iron Man 2, only to be replaced by Don Cheadle?  Momoa may be a rising star, but all rising stars need a big movie to send them on their way and Guardians might be that movie.  Unfortunately, according to @elmayimbe of Latino Review, Momoa is just asking for way too much at this time.

I think the Drax character is a key opportunity to get a black actor involved in this movie. I'd actually prefer it.

They should just cast an authentic green actor for the part and quit whitewashing characters of colour.

Yep, they've already cast Star-Lord.

In Game of Thrones he was good but nothing ground breaking in terms of acting. Plus look was Marvel did with Mickey Rourk in Iron Man 2 paid him less that a million I believe and that is an Oscar caliber actor.

The movie still fails even if a few love it. Just like john carter not enough known of the characters. The others from marvel did well because they were known commodities. Not so with this group. This will be the movie that stops marvel from having so many wins in a row.

John Carter was hampered by a really shitty marketing campaign plus a lot of legacy cost in terms of development. It could've been huge.

i don't think it fails at all, unless you're looking at it to make Iron Man or Avengers numbers, which NOBODY, even marvel, is gonna expect it to do or dream it could. they're obviously gonna go fairly cheap on actor salaries to keep costs down, tie it in heavily to what's coming in the future marvel movies (i think Thanos is damn near a given at this point), and see if Marvel has reached a point where its movies kinda sell themselves based on the story.

and i think this one will. it won't be a blockbuster, no, but i bet it makes respectable box office (between 100-200 million) and is probably a helluva lot of fun. i'll take that all day.

I would like to see a Blakes 7 style ending setting Thanos up for Avengers 2 on a throne made of Groot.

Yea, I like the energy he brings to roles, but he needs to work on his voice. I don't think Conan sounded very 'Conan' to me, at least what I'd think in my head (austrian accent not required). But he was great as a guy grunting in a made up language in GoTs.
