Bumping for covalesky:

Always shied away from flash photography hating built in flashes, and only just now bought a Speedlite. A Yongnuo 560-II for only about $75.00
Shot with it for the first time on Wednesday.
Underexposed everything by an average of about half a stop - Probably because I was relying on the LCD, which I'm assuming is set too bright for indoors, and not on the histogram.
Nothing that couldn't be dealt with in post though.

Def need more practice, but I'm fairly satisfied with the results and happy with my purchase.

I probably coulda gotten away with just using a high iso, but I wanted to try out the flash. Even shots like this one, where the flash didn't fire, were only about 2 stops under.

On some of the wider shots like this I had to use the graduated filter in Adobe Lightroom to even out the exp.

I like Haddock one at lot and the marvel line up is nice. Wonder how it would look if you cropped with phoenix at the center and a couple others to left and right.

If I get the time tomorrow I'll try to do a AVX spoof with my figurines and post it here.

edit: this means I'll do a similar setup as the one you described, but with wolverine at the center.

I wasn't at home when I got the camera. But I had to try it out. Didn't want to move anything around, so I used my shoes.

Cool beans!

Did you shoot the Haddock and row of figures handheld? That's pretty steady for 1/15th sec.
You can see some motion blur on the Deadman but not on the other two.
If you have the camera stationary you don't have to shoot at such a high iso.
Instead of 1600 at 1/15th you can shoot at 400 for 1/3rd sec (or there abouts).

All pics were handheld. I don't own a tripod yet.

Noob question: How do you know the setting I used on those photos?

you've got some steady hands. I thought maybe you propped the camera on something for the Haddock pic.
I try to keep the speed about double the focal length when shooting handheld. So with 50mm I'd try to shoot at least 1/100 sec.

On Flickr next to each pic the basic camera settings are shown and if you click on them you can see all of the exif data. I don't remember what exif stands for, but it's all of the metadata saved by the camera and stored with each picture.
You can set Flickr to hide it if you want. A lot of pros do that- I guess as a trade secrets kind of thing.

I have no problem in showing that. I have no intention on being more than a guy with a camera having fun.

I have yet to try the auto mode. I'm having fun fiddling around in manual. But have still lots to learn about balancing the ISO and shutter speed. Apertude is also a challenged. Its a simple concept but I'm having trouble getting it right.
