Worst remakes of movies?

I just saw the new Red Dawn, because I was too intoxicated to move, and this topic occured to me.

It's easily up there for worst remake when compared to the original, competing with the new Karate Kid movie.

Can you think of more drastic disparities?

Psycho.

Also I'd go as far as to say the Thing and Cape Fear are the only two good remakes..... ever.

I would add Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, True Grit, and The Italian Job to that list, possibly Ocean's 11.

I'd go with Psycho too. Who the hell wants a shot for shot remake of the original. I'll just watch Hichcock's classic instead thank you very much.

Total Recall reminds me of Fright Night, which was awful.

I was with you until you got to Ocean's 11: the original isn't much use at all, and I say that as a huge Rat Pack fan. The Soderburgh film is a lot of fun, on the other hand.

As for bad remakes: whatever that shitty Mel Gibson retread of Point Blank was called, it was dreadful. Ditto Stallone's Get Carter.

I'd easily put The Thing in my top 5 remakes too (along with Magnificent Seven, The Fly, 3:10 to Yuma & Casino Royale)

As for worse, I'll add (movies I've sadly seen)...

Planet of the Apes (Burton)
Longest Yard (Sandler)
Mr Deeds (Sandler)
The Day the Earth Stood Still (Reeves)
Dr Doolittle (Murphy)
Nutty Professor (Murphy)
Arthur (Brand)

Agreed. The Sinatra/Martin version is a nice bit of history (and Rat Pack vanity)(and a pretty good joke at the end) whereas the Clooney/Pitt was just entertaining (which what I primarily watch movies for).

The Rock's version of "Walking Tall." Had zero to do with the original.

The original Ocean's 11 is unwatchable. Most of Sinatra's movies are.

The In-Laws remake with Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks was dreadful.
