George Romero was afraid he was going to be thought of only as a director of horror after he made Night Of The Living Dead, so he made a couple films right afterwards that he thought would play against that type, a 1970s drama called There's Always Vanilla--great fucking title--and an occult-themed movie about a wife's exploration into extramarital sex and the supernatural called Season Of The Witch (not the shitty new movie with same name).

In the end, he still became known exclusively as one of the premiere horror film directors and his zombie movies guide popular culture and entertainment more now than ever, arguably, with The Walking Dead, etc., not to mention the "Of The Dead" film franchise and other zombie-themed media.

But I'm gonna watched Season Of The Witch & There's Always Vanilla because I love oddball 1970s films.

Documentary about a weird little phenomenon that I missed entirely: the edited film business. Apparently, there is a huge demand for Hollywood movies with all of the sex, violence, swearing, etc. edited out, primarily in Mormon circles. So people used to buy the tapes and dvds of movies, edit them, and resell them to this delicate audience. Of course, now they've been shut down, as one might expect, but it's an interesting story, and the documentary's story has a nice little ironic twist.

I watched Snow White and the Huntsman with my wife last night. Normally she doesn't like darker films and I love them......part of me really hated this movie. I'd rate it a 5 only because the cinematography was nice. I thought the freedoms with teh story and the acting were not very good. My wife? According to her, she enjoyed it. Go figure! :smt011

These Romero "lost" films are hilariously bad! Or at least There's Always Vanilla is. So swinging '70s.

Red Dawn - Having never watched the original film, I jumped into this with an open mind. I pretty much got what I expected, mindless action. The movie doesn't have as high a budget as big action blockbusters either. You have lots of scenes where you can hear a helicopter or a jet in the sky but they don't show anything. The movie actually surprised me with a few scenes, including one of the deaths.

I saw Jack the Giant-Slayer after work today. I thought it was OK, but could have been better. Overall, I enjoyed watching it thought.
