Remember him? His last book was Butcher Baker, the long-form psychedelic Smokey & The Bandit thing? Started out with a bang in the press after months of lurid promos, then trickled down to a 10 month delay before the final issue. By then, nearly everyone had forgotten it.

Here's what Casey has to say about it in the letters/editorial page for SEX #1:

"Let's talk for a moment about the back-matter thing...for those of you that were there for it, that shit might've gotten a little out of control, don'tcha think? Not in the sense of content or to whatever extent that I 'revealed myself' (which was not much at all, to be completely honest...or did I say things out to an uncomfortably raw degree, I don't remember...) Just in the sense of the weight it seemed to carry in the context of the book itself. I said a lot of fairly heavy shit in there--and I'm thinking there were times that the comicbook itself didn't always match that heaviness."

It don't know what's odder, admitting that your rambling in the back-pages of your comic might have been more compelling than the comic itself, or the fact that the four pages of editorializing in the back of SEX #1 were again probably a more interesting read than the comic content of the issue. But it's an interesting comic, with some odd stylistic elements like highlighting certain words in the balloons different colors. Sometimes it seemed for emphasis, but with varying colors sometimes in the same word balloon, like a kid with a pack of various highlighting markers.

Ok, cool! Read the back-pages too, he makes some criticisms of DC and Marvel there as well as a couple digs against their readers too.

I'll read the comic again in the mean time, I feel like I may have missed a little of what was going on at the beginning.

He's really funny and writes some of the best comics out there.

Highly recommend the Nerdist podcast episode he was on.

Also, shut up and read Godland. 8)

I read Godland, it's part of the reason I think he's crazy.

Hell, my username is a character from Casey's Wildstorm series The Intimates.

I ordered it, so it should be in my next box of comics.
Looking forward to it... Joe Casey is a brilliant madman.

I new Image series from Joe Casey about what happens to a superhero after he retires.
Apparently a lot of banging. But knowing Casey, it'll be more than that.

That's kind of his thing... he's not wrong. But he is a little repetitive. :)

Punchy wrote:Joe Casey is crazy.

Yeah he is. In a good way.
I'll at least try anything he writes. It's not always great, but I usually love it.
And it's always at least interesting.

I read it, and while I normally like Joe Casey, I thought it was pretty boring
