Yeah going back would make the reboot look fruitless. They could re-modify it and keep the best of pre and post-reboot.
Even if they go in a really bold move and say that the current universe is actually Earth 24 for example or something that still might piss off folks.

This is the only scenario I could be down with and I think it's a good idea. If they're going to bring back the Multiverse, why focus on just one Universe for so long?

Honestly, I agree with this. As much as I dislike the current state of the DCU, I seriously doubt that DC will completely scrap the DCnU in order to bring back the pre-Flashpoint DCU. Instead, I see them using upcoming events as a way to shake things up a little and perhaps clean up or change some of the things they have been receiving heavy criticism for. For instance, I would be shocked if the Booster Gold that is returning isn't somehow the Booster Gold that we last saw in his own series prior to the relaunch.

If DC didn't care about offending their existing fan base before, they won't care about offending it now. Flashpoint proved that DC will do whatever they want, whenever they want.

After all this time with the Nu52 and bitching about what I don't like and listening to what other people do, I have a new found level of compassion for DC comics. Unlike Marvel, the schism between DC's fan base is insurmountable, there's no way they can even begin to make everyone happy.

DC is damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I guess I'm a bit mystified how Marvel avoids the problem. :smt102

I agree, DC should cut all you Bronies loose and just stop trying to live in the past for your benefit. Kids today don't know or care about the nostalgic sentimentalities form the SIlver Age so this all ages approach isn't for them, it's for old men like you who can't let go of their childhood.

Personally I don't suffer from Peter Pan Syndrome myself, so I'm happy with change. If DC just stopped trying to placate guys like you they could just move on and stop trying to dilute their properties in order to make everyone happy at the same time.

No, you don't.
And there lies part of your problem. :P

So you ASSUME that I'm a Brony because of the avatar.
(And what happens when we ASSUME??)

Actually, it's left over from the "Pony Day" we had some time back (as is Jude's avatar). The show is good, but I'm not "Brony-level" into it. I'm more of a fan of the character this pony is dressed as; that character is my usual avatar.

and just stop trying to live in the past for your benefit. Kids today don't know or care about the nostalgic sentimentalities form the SIlver Age

Another ASSUMption! Tsk, tsk!

I'm not a Silver Age fanboy, either.
For example, and to get right to the point: MY Flash is Wally West.
Always has been, always will be. 8)

so this all ages approach isn't for them

If they expect to keep this industry going, they have to attract new blood.
And that means people of ALL ages, especially kids.

it's for old men like you who can't let go of their childhood.

The Triple Crown of ASSUMption!!
(What a good Pony you are! Yes, you are! :P)

Who said I got into these comics at a young age??

Personally I don't suffer from Peter Pan Syndrome myself, so I'm happy with change.

Only an idiot ASSUMEs all change must be good. :P

If DC just stopped trying to placate guys like you they could just move on and stop trying to dilute their properties in order to make everyone happy at the same time.

Again: Given their stubborn inflexibility on allowing certain characters to reappear, not to mention going with this crappy DCnU in general, they're not really trying to make everyone happy.

So you can cast off a few more of your ASSUMptions, my little Pony!

More or less I'd agree with you.

I guess what I'm wondering is do Marvel fans argue among themselves about how mature their comics are and how mature their audience should be?

At this point, I think DC should stick it out but I'm curious enough either way I don't think I'd hold it against them if they shifted focus to another Earth in the 52. Maybe they should just do 52, Earth 2 style books and only expand on the ones that sell better with spotlight issues and the ones that sell the worst can get killed off in massive cross over events.

I do argue about how mature certain comics are, but I don't limit that discussion only to DC or Marvel.
