Another oops

Xbox Entertainment Awards Hit by Security Breach

Microsoft may have only announced its inaugural Xbox Entertainment Awards yesterday, but the service has already been hit by problems.

According to MCV, the voting site was the victim of a security breach which resulted in the names, gamertags, emails and birthdays of 2,892 entrants being posted online. Those accessing the site were also reportedly able to edit or remove the listings they saw.

Shortly after this, the site was taken offline for maintenance, while MCV was provided with the following explanation by Microsoft: "We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with the Xbox Entertainment Awards landing page and have taken the site offline while we investigate."

YA oops

EA's Origin has an Exploit, Leaving Gamers Vulnerable to Hackers

The ability to infiltrate a remote computer via uniform resource identifiers (URI) exploits is nothing new, per se. A hacker gets someone to click on a link, which actually opens up the victim's system to the infiltration of malware. But as reported by Ars Technica, research group ReVuln has found a potentially dangerous URI exploit within EA's Origin client which could leave as many as 40 million gamers vulnerable.

The ReVuln team gave a presentation last week at the Black Hat security conference in Amsterdam. Apparently, getting someone to click on an "origin://" prefixed link is all it takes, as the Origin client then downloads a dynamic link library file to the victim's computer. The ReVuln team has also released a paper, detailing the exploit, which mentions a similar vulnerability discovered in Valve's Steam platform last year.

Xbox 'Durango' Requires All Games to be Installed

by Matt Clark
March 20, 2013
Rumors about an anti-used game system in the next Xbox -- codenamed Durango -- have swirled for some time now. Vgleaks posted a number of screenshots today, reportedly displaying information contained in the Durango Xbox Development Kit (XDK). The screens, which IGN sources have verified as accurate, confirm a number of rumored features of the next-generation Microsoft console, including a new high-fidelity Kinect sensor. But perhaps a troubling revelation for used game purchasers, the documentation includes a rather blunt reference to mandatory game installs.

"Every Durango console will have a hard drive, although its exact capacity has not been chosen," reads help documentation in the Durango XDK. "It will be large enough, however, to hold a large number of games. All games will be installed on the hard drive. Play from the optical disc will not be supported."

The documentation goes on to state Durango games will be distributed on Blu-ray discs, but the discs are purely used as a means to install data, and will not be read during gameplay. Also of note: the Durango will feature "Always On, Always Connected" online connectivity. Whether Microsoft will use the always-on functionality as a means of DRM is unclear; the documentation only mentions background updates, similar to those announced for the PlayStation 4.

Final Fantasy XV will be exclusive on PS4

Square-Enix has had problems in the current gen, I suspect that the company couldn’t adapt Final Fantasy and other IPs to the HD era. Moreover, the first version of FF14 was a downfall, this game forced to stop the development of other games to focus in the rebuild of FF14. Really it’s like a new game.

Square-Enix announced Final Fantasy Versus XIII years ago and the game was lost in the limbo. Square decided to halt Versus PS3 development two years ago, but the RPG wasn’t cancelled, why? Two years ago, Square-Enix moved the game to PS4 and Sony got in the project.

Actually Sony is co-developing the game with Square-Enix, therefore, this game will be exclusive on PS4.

Awesome

WOO-HOO! DuckTales is back

After over twenty years, one of Capcom’s most beloved 8-bit games is coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U. Disney, WayForward and Capcom are proud to present Ducktales Remastered!
Speaking of animated authenticity, and this is nothing short of HUGE for hardcore DuckTales fans, the surviving voice-talent from the landmark Disney Afternoon TV series have been reunited to bring the unforgettable characters to life for the first time in years. Yes, even Alan Young - who has provided the unforgettable voice for Scrooge McDuck in almost every Disney game, TV show and movie since 1983 - is once again reprising his role as the irascible water fowl.

DuckTales Remastered is currently set to launch this summer on XBLA, PSN and the Wii U e-Shop, and we’ve only just scratched the surface of what’s in store. We’ll have so much more to show in the months ahead, including the game’s new controls, additional areas, a Duckburg museum to track your progress, remixes of some of the most classic videogame music of all-time, and my personal favorite… A MONEY BIN YOU CAN ACTUALLY SWIM IN!
