I have a social engagement this evening that I wish I could get out of and can't.

Omigod what if there are boardgames??

I hate when you get stuck at some married couple's house and they start digging out the board games.

I need to get an "emergency at the shop" cellphone call set up and scheduled.

I just want to lay around and real all those graphic novels I found yesterday.

Don't people realize when they invite you over in advance like this that when the time comes they may end up ruining your entire weekend???

It cracks me up that I found a copy of Spent by Joe Matt, a graphic novel largely about the author's chronic masturbation and the convenience of peeing in jars, in the children's books at the book sale yesterday.

I guess that just proves that kids don't read anymore.

I don't know why you guys read all that superhero stuff when you could be reading about a dude peeing in a jar and obsessively editing all the penis out of his porn VHS tapes.

This is so true, isn't it? The advance invitation turns into a pain in the ass. I'd rather watch reruns of Law & Order than go over to someone's place on a Saturday night.

Unless it's summer, and the party is outside, and the beer is cold and plentiful.

Right, an actual party or even small get-together in those circumstances.

This isn't like that at all.

No, it's you and the couple, in a somewhat dimly lit living room, feeling full and sleepy from dinner, and not being able to drink yourself stupid because no one else is and because you have to drive later.

At best, you come home in time for a predictably dismal episode of SNL.

You could always just completely stop in the middle of some random sentence, stare intently at the wall for a moment, and then declare that somebody is in trouble before running from the house. I've never personally tried it myself but I'm pretty sure that it will work 83% of the time.

I have been known to just suddenly vanish.

I'm really not good at lengthy exits.

What the fuck! Quit being a prognosticator like that! :smt103

That is exactly how I envision this going down. :crying:

dag, it's so nice out. I guess I'll go for a walk. I wonder if there is a bar around here with outdoor seating.
