Marvel Formally Announces

The new graphic novel is the first in a series of OGNs by "A-List" talent.

Source: Amazon

Marvel has formally announced Avengers: Endless Wartime by Warren Ellis and Mike McKone.  According to the product description, the full-length graphic novel will deal with Cap, Thor and their allies fighting foes from their past.

Here's the full description:

An abomination, long thought buried, has resurfaced in a war-torn land. But now it wears an American flag. Faced with another nightmare reborn, Captain America will not stand for yet more death at the hands of a ghost from his past. Haunted by his greatest shame, Thor must renew the hunt for a familiar beast. At their side, an assemblage of allies united to end the threats no one of them could face alone. They are soldiers. Warriors. Comrades-in-arms. Mighty heroes led by a living legend, stronger together than apart. They are the Avengers.

Avengers: Endless Wartime is bookended by an introduction from Marvel’s The Avengers star Clark Gregg (better known as “Agent Phil Coulson”) and an afterword from the legendary Stan Lee, co-creator of this blockbuster super hero team.

Avengers: Endless Wartime features special augmented reality content available exclusive through the Marvel AR app – including cover recaps, behind the scenes features and more, as well as a bonus digital edition redeemable for reading via the Marvel Comics app (for iPhone®, iPad®, iPad Touch® & Android devices) and online in the Marvel Digital Comics Shop, all at no additional cost!

So while we don't know the page count, we do know that the OGN will be AR content and have a free digital copy included.

This is (allegedly) the first in a new series of full-length graphic novels written by "A-List" talent, presumably to compete with DC's Earth One series, which have sold like gangbusters at bookstores.

So how much does this lovely book cost?  Only a modest $24.99 for a hardcover edition.

Looks like it could go either way. Warren Ellis hasn't really done a lot of good for Marvel (aside from Nextwave).

I don't know why they keep sticking this AR shit all over the place. It's really fucking useless and annoying.

If this is anything like Ellis' Secret Avengers... I'm in.

Nextwave, Secret Avengers, Astonishing X-Men: Xenogenesis, Iron Man: Extremis... even weighed out by his other Astonishing X-Men work and New Universal, I'd still say that's a pretty good track record.

This. Keb, Secret Avengers was not as good as Nextwave, but it was still heads and tails above 95% of Marvel's output.

I'm with Keb on the AR stuff: it's annoying on the page and the extra material is not that useful.

I wonder if the thing that is buried is another super soldier like Protocide, John Steele, Winter Soldier or Isaiah Bradley?

Um Protocide, John Steele and Winter Soldier aren't black, wiseguy. I am guessing whatever it is may be another super soldier from Cap's past or some genetic experiment gone wrong.
