Hank Pym to Play with Robots in Avengers AI Series

The new series will spin out of Age of Ultron.

Source: USA Today

Well, now we know the reason why writers like Jason Aaron and Rick Remender are no longer looking at mutants as a metaphor for minorities and the civil rights movements. Robots are the new mutants in the Marvel Universe!  Sam Humphries and Andre Lima Araujo are working on a new Avengers AI title which will spin out of Age of Ultron.  The book looks to explore the role of AI and robots in the Marvel Universe and their complicated relationship with humans.  Starring the Vision, Victor Mancha, a Doombot and Hank Pym, Marvel is already promoting the robot-focused book by noting its civil rights themes.

In a USA Today article, Breevort notes that Vision will take own a "civil-rights activist" role in rallying and advancing the cause of AIs.    The article also reveals that the AIs will have a Magneto type character in Dimitrious, who is rallying AIs towards some nefarious purpose.

The fifteenth Avengers team will also have a few new characters, including Alexis, a mysterious new AI and probable love interest for the robot-banging Pym, and Monica Chang, a SHIELD agent and also probable love interest for the human-banging Pym.

This could be interesting, but I'm about at my limit of my budget when it comes to ongoing series, so I may not be able to get it.

Yeah, that would be the other reason why I'm reluctant to get it.

well, i'm glad Marvel's wasting no time in spoiling that both Pym and Vizh come out of Age of Ultron OK and still heroes. thanks for assuaging my fears and letting me know i can save roughly 36 bucks on the rest of this yawn-inducing non-"event".

"It's a Pandora's Box situation – once you fire that bullet out of the gun, you can never put it back," Humphries says

Dark Avengers will be done before this series launches... and while yes the Ultimates is an "avengers" book i wouldn't count it since its not in the actual marvel universe and doesn't effect or tie into anything but the other ultimate books.

True, but that still leaves eight Avengers team books. That's way too many.

i don't think its too many to be honest, as long as each book has a different angle and you don't have to buy everyone to understand a story i don't see the problem. There's enough characters in the marvel universe that can populate a team, and right now Avenger books sell, so why not use this time to play around with the franchise and expand it. The X-Men have had way more than 8 books staring X-Men for years, and there are still characters that aren't in books.

I don't fault Marvel for wanting to make money. The problem is that, as an Avengers fan, I want to follow that team as thoroughly as I can while at the same time getting other stuff that looks interesting as well. When there are too many Avengers titles being published, my budget starts getting stretched, and those two things start coming into conflict. At that point I have to start making tough decisions and I don't like being put into that situation. Right now I'm there and I'm not happy about it.

This is the main reason why I've avoided most things X related for years.
