Details emerge about Marvel's Infinity Event.

Marvel's Infinity event will feature Thanos attacking Earth while the Avengers are in space.

Source: USA Today

USA Today revealed some information about Infinity, Marvel’s next big event (whose preview issue is Marvel’s Free Comic Book Day comic.) Although we are reporting on this today, USA Today’s story is dated March 31, so we are pretty sure it’s not an April Fool’s Day joke from Rich Johnson (who is kind of going nuts over at Bleeding Cool today.) Infinity will feature everybody’s favorite purple-tinted engine of destruction, Barney Thanos, which is not suprising since he appears on the already-released cover art.

"The universe's greatest serial killer is cut loose to do bad things to our most precious world, “according to Jonathan Hickman, who will be scripting the book, along with a tag team of Jim Cheung, Jerome Opena and Dustin Weaver handling the art chores.

According to America’s number one source of colorful graphs, The Infinity event will feature what happens when the Avengers leave Earth to stop The Builders (the mysterious beings that spawned Aleph and Ex Nihlo in Avengers), leaving our planet vulnerable to attack from Thanos.

The Avengers cross over issues will focus on the Avengers, along with Nova and The Guardians of the Galaxy, as they travel throughout the Marvel Universe trying to unite the Skrulls, Kree, and The Brood against The Builders.

Meanwhile, in Infinity and New Avengers, the event will focus on Thanos and his attempts to make Earth his next conquest and the efforts of the remaining Earth bound Marvel heroes to stop him.

"Somebody like Daredevil, who's used to dealing with more street-level problems, has to suddenly face foes and situations that are a little bit out of his ordinary weight class," says Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort.”

The Inhumans are reportedly playing a part in Infinity as well, but it is unclear what their role will be.  The only thing we can be sure of is that it will probably not be the way Uncle Rich described at Bleeding Cool, which, we hope, is an April Fools’ Day joke.

Also from the USA Today article...

Cavalry shows up in the form of the Inhumans, a society of super-beings led by the silent but extremely powerful Black Bolt, who have always straddled the line between heroes and villains since their first appearance in 1965 in Fantastic Four.

"straddled the line between heroes and villains" Huh? Since when are they 'straddlers'.

well, he did say Inhumans, not the Royal Family. and anyway, you have Medusa who's been in the Frightful 4 (and is looking mighty suspicious in current FF), Maximus has always been bad up until the recent DnA cosmic stuff (and even then you weren't sure), there have been other bad Inhumans, and from time to time Black Bolt and the others will do things for their people that may not jibe with what the Earth superheroes deem right.

so i can sorta see the sentiment, even if i don't necessarily 100% agree with it.

Most of the Inhumans have never been villains. They've been antagonists sure but never bad guys.

They are mostly isolationists. They want to live their lives and try to co-exist with humans as best they can. Usually when they get into conflicts with humans it's because

A)humanity started messing around with them
or
B)Maximus is doing his Maximus the Mad thing and trying to kill everyone.

Since they were at war with the U.S. Government?

And one a unrelated note.

The Avengers/Guardians traveling the galaxy talking to the big galaxy Empires getting them to join force against these Builders?

That's basically the Mass Effect games plotline. Wonder if Hickman realizes that....

It's too bad the Earth doesn't have 50 million other heroes waiting in the wings. Or is Thanos only attacking Manhattan?

even if he's just attacking Manhattan itself, there's an entire school of superheros like 2 hours away...

That would explain why the early drafts of the notes for this kept referring to Thanos as Saren...

You know maybe, just maybe Thanos would not have all these problems if we, Oh I do not know, go to some planet on other side of the galaxy that is not Earth where he can do all he wants and not worry about the Avengers to interfere. Just saying maybe a lot of Thanos problems is that he brings them on himself. Stupid mutated Grape Ape.

seriously
at some point in time, these aliens have to realize that the Earth isn't worth the trouble

I think it's more pride after he's been constantly owned by humans every time while the rest of the universe falls so easily. They should reunite him with Deadpool to break the fourth wall to rectify this.

As long as it doesn't culminate in an ideological debate with a Star Child that's not really a bad ring in my eyes.
