It means DC makes poor decisions with its "vehicles."

Identity Crisis may have gotten the sales, but look at how many properties he damaged doing it. Justice League, notably.

I know, you have a point. Look at how much money they lost, when he "damaged" it so bad, they never published another issue.

Oh wait, they never stopped publishing, they never stopped making money, and they never went out of business. Guess that vehicle is cruising along just fine, despite your Monday Evening Quarterbacking. :P

Let's see...It's gone through two reboots, the first one's sales went down south after Meltzer left. The second one is slowly heading south, and is bound to do so when Johns leaves

Mind you, this is a Legion thread not a Justice League thread. And the DC's decision to give in to Meltzer and Johns' wishes to being the "classic" Legion back Has been a financial disaster.

Speaking of sales...
128 - THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES
02/2008: Supergirl & LoSH #39 -- 31,123
02/2011: LoSH #10 -- 23,738
---------------------------------------
02/2012: LoSH #6 -- 23,428 (- 8.6%)
03/2012: LoSH #7 -- 21,894 (- 6.6%)
04/2012: LoSH #8 -- 21,457 (- 2.0%)
05/2012: LoSH #9 -- 20,854 (- 2.8%)
06/2012: LoSH #10 -- 19,963 (- 4.3%)
07/2012: LoSH #11 -- 19,421 (- 2.7%)
08/2012: LoSH #12 -- 18,907 (- 2.7%)
09/2012: LoSH #0 -- 21,561 (+ 14.0%)
10/2012: LoSH #13 -- 18,487 (- 14.3%)
11/2012: LoSH #14 -- 17,767 (- 3.9%)
12/2012: LoSH #15 -- 16,912 (- 4.8%)
01/2013: LoSH #16 -- 16,496 (- 2.5%)
02/2013: LoSH #17 -- 16,242 (- 1.5%)
-----------------
6 months: - 14.1%
1 year : - 30.7%
2 years : - 31.6%
5 years : - 47.8%

Levelling out, at long last. But with sales well below 20K already, that alone might not be enough for the book to survive 2013.

And that was the first issue with Giffen's involvement.

I hope those Legion fans who cheered on Meltzer and Johns on as they stabbed Waid in the back are happy. You got what you wanted. And it failed.

Legion's gonna get canceled, and it won't be back for a long time.

And you killed it.
And you failed.

One of these days I have to read Morrison's Final Crisis.
I would have said that Morrison had the right to mess with the DCU since his Animal Man days. I don't see that as a reward for the years he has been on DC but as a reward for his talent. In that case, Meltzer also deserves to play with DC's big toys.

The difference is that Meltzer is a part-timer. Comics aren't his main focus. He comes in, throws things around, and leaves without any serious effort to clean up after his mess. Which is mostly the opposite of how Morrison works.

Me, I prefer the guys who come in and fuck shit up and leave it fucked up. Much more preferable to the ones who come in, fuck it all up, then tie everything up back into a nice, neat little bow and leave everything the way it was before they showed up.

I prefer writers who stay around and build something, and leave the title stronger, as opposed to the either of the two extremes you mentioned.

The thing is, you can argue Meltzer did that by adding interest to a title that hadn't seen nearly that level of interest in almost a decade. He built something and left it stronger. It's not as though sales plummeted afterwards.

It was JLA at the time.

JLA was doing something like 60,000 when Identity Crisis ended (Dec '04) By that same time the next year, they had hit 95k one month and were doing probably on avg close to 80k.

At which time, the JLA had disbanded, and the title was about to be canceled and relaunched. (Which didn't happen for about six months after it was canceled, since Meltzer can't be bothered to start anything except on his own time.)

Says even more that with a title people know is ending, the sales still increased after Identity Crisis. Who'd have guessed Meltzer had that kind of power?

Well, it had a de facto connection with Infinite Crisis as well. So, you have to give credit to Johns for the sales bump as well (since he played clean-up on JLA, dealing with the consequences of Infinite Crisis)).
