well, i beg to disagree, go and ask any victim's family if they would kill the one who killed their relative, if they had the chance, and i'm 100% sure that they will kill in a heartbeat. more to that as a proof is that most families are not satisfied with the judgment of the jury and want to finish it their own way.

PDH wrote:Some people need to be killed, obviously, but there is already a system in place to do that and, whilst it's far from perfect, it is better than a system in which every individual person gets to decide on their own who to kill and why. That is a recipe for disaster. Some people might have good reasons (e.g. they're about to slaughter a family and this is the only way to stop them in time) but a lot of people would have very bad reasons (e.g. they belong to the wrong kind of ethnic group and everybody knows that those people don't deserve to live). Different people would set the 'person x needs to die' bar at different levels and probably there would be a lot of needless, undeserved deaths.

The process obviously has to be communal in some way then but mob rule is clearly suboptimal, as well. That leaves government. Or, as mentioned, the system that we have already.

well, if we go by that assumption, i doubt there would be a government to begin with

Who's to say none of y'all have been on someone's hit list? Some of you would have never lived long enough to dispense "justice".

It would take extreme extenuating circumstances for me to ever kill anyone, legal or not.

I think people trivialize death, but I think a lot of those people, whether consciously or not, believe that death isn't the ending.

I once killed a man for just looking at me. That man was my own brother.

True story, bro.

I wasn't only speaking about victim's families, but even then I don't think you're going to get 100% on your claim.

What I meant was that as a society many people might agree that a violent murderer should be dead. Obviously there are many people who disagree with this, but there are those who have no problem with the death penalty and think it is necessary. I think most of those people who are in favor of it wouldn't want to execute that person themselves, and are more comfortable relying on a government agency to do it.

I wouldn't kill just because it was made legal or non-forbidden. That's just insane and evil. But, I would kill if I had to (self-defense, revenge for hurting/killing a loved one), regardless of the legality.
