Valiant Solicitations for July 2013

Postby LOLtron » Fri Apr 12, 2013 10:11 am

Valiant Solicitations for July 2013

The end of Harbinger Wars and the start of Quantum & Woody. All this and more from Valiant.

Source: Press Release

Our friends at Valiant have some fun still cooking up for this summer.  In July, we finally come to the end of Harbinger Wars, the first major crossover for The Flyin' V. We've been talking about it for so long, it's odd to think of it as coming to an end. But there are also new beginnings for Valiant. The new Quantum & Woody makes its debut this month. While we're at it, X-O Manowar, which has been in the throes of its "Planet Death" storyline, will embark on a new arc, this one featuring The Eternal Warrior, who was last seen in Archer & Armstrong, in a story that will be collected in a trade paperback out this same month. See how it all ties together?

ARCHER & ARMSTRONG VOL. 2: WRATH OF THE ETERNAL WARRIOR TPB
Written by FRED VAN LENTE
Art & Cover by EMANUELA LUPACCHINO

No one in the Valiant Universe is more dangerous or more experienced in the art of war than the undying Eternal Warrior. After thousands of years on the battlefield, he’s a master of strategy and weaponry, an unrelenting force of nature capable of dismantling entire armies with little effort and less conscience. His brother Armstrong, on the other hand, likes to read poetry and drink beer. Maybe that’s why they had such a bad falling out? But now – after years apart – the Eternal Warrior has a new mission: destroy young Obadiah Archer, Armstrong’s best-est new buddy and teammate in the war against The Sect. And, like it or not, Valiant’s history-smashing adventure duo are about to feel the brunt of the Eternal Warrior’s fist and steel.

Collecting ARCHER & ARMSTRONG #5-9 by New York Times best-selling author Fred Van Lente (Amazing Spider-Man) and critically acclaimed artist Emanuela Lupacchino (X-Factor), the second volume of the series that IGN calls "hilarious and action packed" slams into high gear with a savage manhunt straight through the heart of the Valiant Universe.

I'm not sure how Quantum & Woody will fit into the universe Valiant is building. I'm half-tempted to skip this, but I know I won't...

I enjoy them all, though some way more than others.

DCBS has run a special on them for quite a while now called the Valiant Bundle, 50% off if you get all titles, but you can't pick covers.

Since Valiant created them, I would assume it's still theirs. Not that it probably matters though, because the characters that don't really deserve a book on their own are showing up as supporting characters ... Ninjak in X-O, Dr. Mirage in Shadowman and the Geomancer in A&A. The last thing they need to do is expand too quickly like they did before, and like CrossGen did.

All of them have been great, and which one I like best varies from month to month. They all started out a little slowly (with the exception of X-O for me) in part due to the somewhat decompressed nature of the story telling. Bloodshot may have been the worst at this but now that it's picked up steam, it's truly amazing. Really, they're all excellent. I'll echo others and say that A&A is probably the best. It's one of those "lets try a bunch of crazy things and see what works" kind of books, and it mostly has been "working" for me. My current favorites are Bloosdhot and Harbinger, which is perfect timing as they are leading into the Harbinger Wars mini-crossover. My least favorite right now is X-O (which has in the past been my favorite). Having said that, the first issue of the Planet Death in-issue "event" was pretty solid and really fleshed out the Vine (aka the Spider Aliens).
