I think it is domestic as well. Wouldn't al Qaeda be jumping over themselves to take credit if it was them (or some other terrorist organization?)

That's been the most baffling thing to me. Isn't the point of doing something like this to then go and take credit for it and promote your lunatic agenda?

That's what bothers me. And even if they didn't, we watch these groups closely enough that I feel like we'd know something by now.

But with domestic terrorism, there's usually a target with some political significance. Bombing a marathon doesn't make much sense.

It does seem to be a domestic incident, since the major international terrorist groups haven't claimed credit. The question remains, however, what the motive for the attack was. It could be someone sympathetic to Al Qaeda or the Taliban. Or a member of a so-called "Patriot" group. Or a total nutbar who decided to do this because his corn flakes told him to.

The FBI cancelled today's news briefing after delaying it repeatedly, and they've also let on they have camera footage, if we're patient it's possible we may be finding out who did this in the next couple days.

And the MSM has been completely inconsistent in reporting his name. I've seen:

This is why they don't want Conspiracy Theories. The MSM is doing a good enough job, and it would cut into their amateur conspiracies. Salon 'hopes it was a white guy'. A Fox News guy said we need to kill all Muslims. Blitzer blamed the Tea Party. Makes no difference. Find who did it and kill the shit out of them.

One would think. Which would tend to mitigate against their being the culprits. Even though the design of the bomb is consistent with one AQ has advocated before.

Perhaps this is a lone wolf sort of thing--whatever the ideology behind it.

If it is a lone wolf, he (or she) either knows that the intended audience will see the symbolism underlying the attack, or doesn't care and just wants to cause suffering.

The bomb is consistent with what Al Qaeda and the Taliban have used abroad, but is also consistent with the Atlanta Olympics bomb. It's just a very simple bomb design. I don't know that we can read too much into the design of the bomb.

They are very douchey-looking, the bombing aside. I say kill them and then decide if they did the bombing or not.
