Marvel and DC Planning Uncanny Avengers/The Movement Crossover

The crossover will feature the Avengers beating up on teenagers.

If there's two things the Uncanny Avengers are known for, it's beating up teenagers and appearing in other people's books.  So, it shouldn't come as much as a surprise that DC and Marvel have come together to plan a crossover event between Uncanny Avengers and The Movement, Gail Simone's new series focusing on rebellious teenage superheroes.

"The second I read The Movement, I knew that these were some kids in need of a beating by Marvel's greatest heroes," said Rick Remender, writer of Uncanny Avengers.  The Movement's first issue, which was released today, focused on a group of teenage superheroes obstructing justice and harboring fugitives.

"And there's no better representation of an oppressive and corrupt fascists who like to beat children for fun than the Uncanny Avengers," added Simone.  The Uncanny Avengers, meanwhile, appeared in this week's issue of All New X-Men, looking to punch the lights out of a group of teenagers whose only crime was being too well written.  The Uncanny Avengers are also fighting the teenage Apocalypse Twins and Aang the Avatar in their own series.

Remender and Simone have been working on the crossover for months, surprising since they work for rival companies.  "Between my hobo piss comments and DC's general PR incompetency, we really thought this would be a way to spread some good press for all parties," said Remender.

The crossover really is a match in heaven.  Wolverine's habitual child murdering habit and the hamfisted and oppressive fascism of Captain America go hand in hand with the Movement's ill-defined rage against the establishment and need to be smacked around by hairy Canadians.

While both creators remained mum on plot details, Simone did state that one of the Movement's cast would be revealed to be one of Wolverine's children, which would immediately put her and the rest of the team on Wolverine's "To Kill" list.  Remender also noted that the plot would rely heavily on cell phones, because that's a relevant thing nowadays.

When asked why DC and Marvel would agree to the crossover, Marvel EiC Axel Alonso shrugged.  "We like money," he said, as Bob Harras lit a hundred dollar bill with a lighter behind him.

The companies also released a promotional picture, which seemed to be a crudely photoshopped version of the original Green Team/Movement promotional picture.  "We'll photoshop the money out of the Avengers' fist, and make it look like it's punching a child," said Harras.

"Or maybe we'll leave the money in," said Alonso.  "The Avengers movie did make a lot of money."

As snarky as the article is supposed to be, it's sadly accurate when it comes to (at least) Thor.

I've witness him hitting kid a few times now (AvX & Hickman's Avengers). Thor's a dick and about as far from the noble character that creators like Kirby & Simonson brought us, you cab get.
