DC Reveals More On The New Batman Of Earth 2

Here's a sneak peek inside EARTH 2 ANNUAL #1

Source: Press Release - DC Blog

A press release at DC's The Source gives more glimpses of the new Batman of Earth 2. As writer James Robinson first  teased at  WonderCon 2013:

"The new Batman of Earth 2 is very different. I'm saying this at every interview, I really want to stress that I was reading a message board … and they were guessing who this Batman was going to be, various names, and some guy said -- I thought it was a quite fair remark -- "I don't care who it is, I just don't want it to be one of those gimmicks where it's just a crazy guy for two issues and he just get killed off." We've seen that. Marvel and DC have both done it in the past and it's always a little bit unsatisfying. I just want to stress that this is a character that will be around permanently. He's not going anywhere, he's going to have a huge impact on Earth 2 and on the whole DC Universe. This is definitely a big character we're bringing into the DC world. This isn't a gimmick.."

So far, we know this mysterious character will be making his debut in EARTH 2 ANNUAL #1 – but who is he? And why does he pick up the cape and cowl of The Dark Knight?

Robinson now adds:

“This isn't some new person coming in to be Batman. This is definitely a part of Batman lore.”

In the meantime check out the sneak peek below of some of CAFU's stunning interior artwork for EARTH 2 ANNUAL #1, and don't forget to pick up the issue when it lands in stores on May 29!

Is it going to be Thomas Wayne again like in Flashpoint? I think that would be cool and I wouldn't have a problem with it... :|

Good point and why does the new Atom have Atom Smasher's ability to grow in size? :o

Al Pratt has appeared in the Earth 2 ongoing series as a U.S. Sergeant in charge of a squad carrying an atomic bomb meant to neutralize an Apokoliptian tower responsible for transporting Parademons to Earth. His squad however is attacked while en route to the tower and the bomb is detonated. Al is later found unharmed in the center of a giant hand print in the ground. Five years later, Al has become a captain in the World Army and is operating as a superhero codenamed "the Atom", wearing a costume similar to his son Damage while possessing the atomic energy powers of his original counterpart and the size-changing powers of his godson Atom Smasher.

Alfred finally gets his shot at the spotlight! :P

No real guesses on who it’ll be. I hope it’s revealed in the issue.

I wouldn't be too surprised if it wasn't Dick Grayson or Damien Wayne.

...or Robin John Blake.

Terry McGuinness, but now he's a stodgy middle aged man with no compunctions against killing. And he's now from Georgia, with a thick southern accent. For no reason.

WTF is this rank?

I really hope it's Dick Grayson. It would be a nice nod to Pre-Crisis Earth-2, and, frankly, I think Dick is due for a permanent promotion in some reality.

This. Dick's time as Batman was cut way too short because of the relaunch. He was doing a great job as his own type of Batman and he should be given that opportunity on a permanent basis. Plus like you said, it would be a nice nod to Pre-Crisis Earth-2.

I'd prefer Jason Todd but it would also be cool for a brand new person to be behind the cowl. :)

So does the Nu52 now mean 52 books starring Batman?
I wonder who's in more books - Bats or Spidey?
