When was the last time we saw a pulp character on the big screen? Rocketeer maybe?

(Sin City was Noir and Spirit doesn't exist)

Rocketeer ain't Pulp, he was created in like 1982!

But this could be good, Shane Black is awesome (not just Iron Man 3, but also Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and I like the idea of Doc Savage a lot, just not the execution of most stories.

I think it would be better if someone were to do a movie of Brubaker and Phillips' Incognito, which is Pulp that makes sense.

Lot's of :smt017 here.

As Punchy said so eloquently, Rocketeer ain't pulp. But why doesn't the Spirit exist (despite him also being comic and not pulp)?

And going all technical - Noir isn't a stand alone genre - it's a sub-genre of pulp (as are: the gangster, westerns, romance, science fiction, horror, fantasy, sports and even lite porn magazines of the time).

As for actual pulp characters that made the big screen, the last one is either John Carter or Conan.

Historically we've seen movies of: Doc Savage, Shadow, Buck Rogers, Tarzan, Hopalong Cassidy & Zorro (I don't consider the Phantom or Flash Gordon (comic strips) or Green Hornet (radio serial) as true pulp (just products of the era). And it's weird that the Avenger never made it to the big screen.

You know I meant movie wise on the Sin City/Spirit thing right?

Sin City is a good fucking movie. Spirit and Green Hornet are fucking terrible.

Agree on everything you said though. 8)
