Marvel, Avengers Stars Set to Battle Over Money

The Avengers and Marvel Studios are set to battle over money.

Source: THR

Avengers 2 could already be in jeopardy, claims Hollywood Reporter.  A new article, released yesterday, details the testy negotiations looming between Marvel Studios and the cast of Avengers 2.  According to the report, Robert Downey Jr. is leading the charge to help negotiate better deals for himself and other castmembers after previous contracts led to Downey earning $50 million for Avengers while some of his castmates earned as little as $200,000.

The core issue is Marvel's notorious frugalness, one of Marvel CEO's Ike Perlmutter's signature traits.  The comic industry has had dealings with Perlmutter's frugalness before.  One popular story is that Perlmutter prohibited Marvel from purchasing paper clips after he noticed some in the trashcan, forcing editors to schedule offsite illicit meetings with freelancers to obtain the office supply.  Of course, it remains to be seen whether Marvel considers Robert Downey Jr. and the rest of the Avengers cast to be as unnecessary as paper clips are.

We asked Outhouse Senior Hollywood Correspondent Hobo Joe, who spends much of his time sitting near the TCL Chinese Theatre, about his views on the ongoing negotiations.  "Everyone makes has more money than Hobo Joe," our analyst said.  "And toes too.  Everyone has more toes than Hobo Joe."

This is sure to be one of the bigger stories of the summer, so we'll continue to give you updates as they happen.

I really just hope this is pure bullshit gossip, but even if it is true then Disney and Marvel needs to just pay them! These movies are making money hand over first for both companies, not just from the movies but from all the other merchandising and so forth, so yeah just fucking pay them and be done with it.

Was listening to this on the classical music station in the morning. The dude said something about the movie needing to make 1.1billion to break even.

Want sure if that was the movie or the franchise to date.

Fuck'em. They signed multipicture deals willingly, not with a gun to their heads.

I could see them going the smart route of a few millions each with a percentage based on performance.

I could also see this all be a recasting.

I could also see this being the death of comic book films.

I could see a lot of things here... like hot actresses in tights. Me like.

You just like Scarlett in the black leather tights. Unlike me. My appreciation is strictly for the art. And I stand by that statement.
