Marvel Hasn't Changed Mind about Angela

Marvel unveiled the character's new look on EW.com today.

Source: EW

Marvel reminded readers today that it hadn't given up on integrating Spawn reject and Neil Gaiman creation Angela into its universe.  The publisher unveiled the character's new look for Entertainment Weekly today, revealing that....they had changed her headdress apparently.  The character also seems to have picked up the thigh ribbons left behind from Psylocke when she discovered pants for the first time in 30 years, although that could just be a holdover from her original costume.  God knows I've never read Spawn in my life.

It's good to see that Marvel decided not to update the character's bikini armor to something more practical.  We'd hate for a character to run around stabbing people without her midriff, thighs and upper part of her boobs exposed. Actually, according to one of the other writers, she's wearing less clothing than her original costume design.  That's what we call progress over the last 20 years.  The industry has made some real strides!

Anyways, Marvel also engaged in some 1984-esque thinkspeak when talking about the character.  "What’s fascinating to me about what we have done is Angela is clearly a part of the Marvel universe by the time people understand her back-story," Marvel exec Axel Alonso in an interview with EW, his eyes oddly unfocused and vacant. "It’s as if she’s always been there.   We've always been at war with Eastasia."  Okay, we made that last line up to make a point, but still.

The EW article also brought up Miracleman, because he's coming to the Marvel Universe eventually.  When?  We don't know (probably at the end of Age of Ultron).  Seriously, we have no idea.  (Definitely at the end of Age of Ultron).

No, it's not as if she has always been there. It's as if a character was tailored to exist within a specific universe to exist as a supporting character for a specific character and serve a specific purpose but is now being shoehorned into another universe because the writers think it's "cool."

The funny thing is the first thing I though was "where are her earrings?"

Then I remembered what they were.

Not just her boots, her entire "outfit" is covered in arbitrary lines. She even has arbitrary lines coming out of her eyes!

This is like the time DC told us that they had the MLJ/Archie heroes and T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents...
