The idea behind this series has merit and going I thought there was potential. I enjoyed Gail Simone's writing on Secret Six and had thought that perhaps I'd like what she would do here as well. After reading the first issue, I have to say that I don't have much interest in continuing to read this series. None of the main characters seem interesting. The actions they are taking don't really make much sense -- they actually think that they can take over an entire section of a city with impunity? In short, it's a good idea with bad execution. 3 out of 10. |

I really dug this book. It takes the idea of people buying powers and explores the consequences from an "absolute power corrupts" POV that could prove to be interesting. For a first issue it did a good job of introducing the reader to the universe enough to keep the reader engaged to pick up #2. The art was better than average, and the writing fit the "cop drama" genre pretty well. I'd recommend this on a slow week. 6/10 |

![]() It's got artists like Francisco Francavilla and Ben Templesmith (& more) working on it. I might try one more shop, but I don't have high hopes. |

What a piece of shit. None of the characters were remotely likable except the police captain. Are "the movement" supposed to be the heroes here? Because it doesn't come off that way. I won't pretend I had high hopes for this but it still disappointed. If the goal was to make the occupy movement seem like spoiled retards, it succeeded. 0 |

This was much better than The Movement. Carey is a good writer, and this book was solid. The story focused on the main character, a cop whose name I forget, showing him dealing with the survivors guilt of seeing his fellow cops killed by rampaging superpowered humans. We see his home life, his wife, his family. We see how it affects his job (he's put on mandatory time off). We learn about the world - people get powers by buying them on a black market, and the powers disproportionately either go to people with evil intentions or turn people with good intentions evil. All of this leads very naturally into our hero making a decision to get some powers himself to try to fight back, which brings us to the end of the issue, where he is seemingly killed by the powers as soon as they manifest. It's everything The Movement wasn't. It was a logical story with a likable protagonist and good writing. That being said, I'm not sure I have any more interest in a "darker, different take on superheroes" because there are already so many of them, both in mainstream comics trying to be edgy and indie comics exploring superheroes in a "realer" way. So, decent book, but not sure I'll be picking up issue 2 because it doesn't really bring anything new to the table. 6/10 |

Just gave this a quick read, and I gotta say that I enjoyed what I read. The characterization is good, but the source of the powers and the "power corrupts absolutely" didn't grab me as much. The art is decent, though lacking. It gets the job done, but lacks a certain oomph to it. Suicide Risk #1 isn't a must-buy, but it wouldn't be a total waste of money to purchase it. 7 out of 10 |
