FCBD is about comic book stores because they're the ones who need comics to sell. Putting FCBD in a grocery store is not going to get people to go back to buying comic books there because the people who would have bought them there don't want to buy comic books in the first place.

I never recall comics being in a lot of supermarkets growing up. They were always in the smaller convenience stores and drug stores (the ones that were more likely to be locally owned than corporate). At least around here. But that was then.

The modern marketplace is more centered around the supernmarkets and Walmarts than it is the mom n' pop stores. It's where comics need to start making better serious efforts to get into, along with a bigger presence in book stores.

Nope - they're too huge and conglomerate-y.

That or the old grab bag style with one or three old/recent comics in each bag for something like a buck. Mind you, those were really just the distributors pulling a fast make-a-buck while ripping off the publishers.

Yeah, but the ones I remember seeing were kinda horrible...

There's a reason it's nicknamed Whole Paycheck.
It still has a less huge/conglomerate-y feel than Kroger or Publix.

It's a good point. Archie has a few titles, but Marvel has like 50 and DC other 50, that's more than 100 different publications...

And again, not every publisher has all their magazines on sale at the supermarket magazine stand. In those cases, Marvel/DC/ etc. should work on at least getting the big books out in those kind of retailers, and work on getting the bigger line in the bookstores.

Yet DC and Marvel could always do a digest book. I know DC did at one point in the 80s with reprint material. I'm surprised that Disney hasn't decided to do something about that. It's perfect marketing to get people to the Avengers. Reprinting Marvel Adventures Avengers or Marvel Adventures Iron Man.

Maybe The Mouse is shy, because it's DONE the supermarket digest book (Disney Adventures Magazine), and it folded..

Which was before it bought Marvel. Disney Adventures was also more of a digest which featured comic material rather being a "traditional" comic digest.

That will never happen because it would alienate there biggest distributors.

It wouldn't make any sense business wise.

DC & Marvel need to find a better way to put their old comics in digital format. I tried a sample of the Superman & Shazam trade on the Kindle, and it was very unpleasant to read.
